My husband has lost 8 pounds since March 14 of this year and is below his high school. He is a grazer and is not eatin* enough. What do suggest he eat?

Is he not eating properly and just grazing on junk food (empty calories)?
Has he met with a Renal Dietitian to develop a kidney-friendly meal plan?
That should be his first step. What caused his CKD and how are his last years worth of labs? These are some of the things the RD will need to know. He will have to stick to that meal plan if he hopes to hold off dialysis for as long as possible.
Best of luck.
We can't advise on what he can eat as everyone is different and those differences are especially important in people with CKD. You should try and see a renal dietician who can sit down with you both and his lab results and determine a suitable diet. Getting the diet recommendation is the easy part. The hard part is sticking to the new diet. I suspect that because doctors know people rarely stick with things that this is one of the reasons why doctors don't focus much on diet in kidney treatment. However I believe that it is a key component in delaying dialysis.
Lastly I would say that weight loss can be a symptom of kidney disease as our kidneys fail it is normal to have a reduced appetite. Again another reason why professional help should be sought. Best of luck.
Does your husband have a prescribed CKD diet? As Mr Kidney stated the diet is important, as is nutritious food, and no empty calories.
I lost approximately 18%of my weight and it did level off. I too eat several small meals and use the Davita diet tracker If he can get a referral to a dietitian to help with meal planning, that would help. What does his Doctor say about his weight loss. Is it what is expected?
Hi 007butterfly! Well, all of the advice you’ve read so far is the best I can think of. Your husband really should ask his physician for a referral to a renal dietician, even if it’s just to get an idea based on the results of his bloodwork, of what foods and what quantity he should be consuming daily. Even if he’s in the earlier stages of CKD, he should still at least try to limit his intake of sodium, potassium and phosphorus. As the others have mentioned, it’s never too soon to act in CKD, in order to put off dialysis for as long as possible.
If you’re looking for some ideas on kidney-friendly diet plans and recipes, try going online to DaVita.com. They specialize in foods and recipes for people in all stages of CKD. And remember, it’s important for kidney patients to keep away from anti-inflammatory meds (Advil, Motrin and Aleve), as well as some antibiotics and steroidal medications as well. And he should try to remain properly hydrated. If he’s unsure of how much water he should be drinking daily, ask his doctor.
Also, limit regular coffee, chocolate, nuts and seeds, dairy, and meat proteins. A little exercise daily is also beneficial, but nothing overly strenuous. A little walking (30 - 40 minutes a day). Always consult with his doctors to express your concerns. We can only offer advice based on our own experiences, but we can’t make any diagnoses here.
I hope you and your husband will find the suggestions you’ve read here, helpful. Please do keep us posted on his progress. All my best to the both of you! God bless. 😊👍🙏
