Are these levels high

I recently had a accident where I passed out from carbon monoxide poisoning, after the treatment in A&E I got some results back. Type 2 diabetes levels 29.7, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

I understand those results but I been referred to a doctor weeks later and have currently 987mg/day of protein in my urine.

I shut off when he started saying about kidney disease as it took me by surprise.

Are the kidney results anything to be alarmed by.

Regards Remi

I've never heard of levels for type 2 diabetes. I've had T2D for almost 20 years. My A1c is at 5.2 and I control it with diet and exercise. I also have high blood pressure and with medications, I have that under control. My last month's average has been 123/74.

T2D and high blood pressure are the two leading causes of CKD.

Physicians usually determine a patient has CKD with low eGFR numbers and high creatinine numbers.

Often, this is done after a run of labs and not from one test, as there are many reasons for a single lab to show a trend.

If you weren't provided with a hard copy of your labs, ask for one.

The first thing you must do to slow the progression of CKD is to get diabetes and high blood pressure under control. To learn more about CKD, use the davita.com website to learn about the stages and also get recipe ideas. Also, kidneyschool.org has learning modules for you to view.

Please come back when you have more information. There are many folks here who can share and help.

Best of luck.

Hi Remi. Wow. 29.7. Gotta tell ya though, I’ve been there and worse. Hate to even rehash this but, there was actually a time when my glucose monitor was only reading, “HI”. For awhile there, I was getting more greetings from my monitor than from the people in my life! Lol!

But seriously, Mr Kidney is right. Do your best to follow a good diabetic diet. Try to lean way back on the carbs, such as breads, potatoes, desserts, pasta, rice, pizza and any other sweets you may be consuming. Get a good amount of cardio exercise daily (not too much, weight-lifting, if any at all, this can raise your creatinine levels as well).

Lay low on fruits also, just for the time being until you’re able to get proper control of your sugar levels. Truthfully, with regard to the diabetes right now, your diet should consist of a little protein, ie chicken, salmon, and eggs, and some green veggies, ie zucchini, cucumbers, spring mix lettuce, etc. If you go to DaVita.com, you will find very helpful advice on food and beverage lists of items low in sodium, potassium and phosphorus. This will help you with regard to your possible CKD as well.

Drink water daily. If you’re into drinking any type of sodas right now, even diet drinks, or alcohol, then I would advise you to stop. Water is the best option in improving your GFR levels, but also in flushing your system.

Keep away from any anti-inflammatory drugs, even over-the-counter types, such as Advil, Motrin and Aleve. These are very rough on the kidneys. With CKD, the goal is to slow down any progression of it, and many people, (and I suspect you could be one of them, because you caught it very early) can end up doing very well and feeling good for many years, providing they stick to a proper daily diabetes, and CKD diet and exercise regimen.

Please do take good care of yourself and please keep us posted on your progress. Talk to your medical team and don’t be afraid to ask them questions or share your concerns. Stay hydrated, that’s important. I hope I’ve been helpful to you. All my best to you, dear! God bless. 😊👍
