HI Portland
There is a lot of information out there on diets for patients with CKD. But there are a lot of things that need to be considered for each individual. Have you seen a renal dietician? Of course right now, seeing anyone is hard. I would suggest you look through this forum under diet and nutrition for some ideas what other people do.
In general, there are some things you can do.
Eat fresh.
Read labels. Check for sodium and additives
Limit salt but not eliminate.
Drink water
Foods to avoid are processed foods, such as frozen dinners, canned dinners, and things that have a lot of additives, such a phosphate and sodium by products.
Not knowing if you have high potassium or phosphorous, I can't give you much more advice.
Thankyou for responding ,I did ask to see a dietician but was told the remaining kidney is good so therefore there was no need to see one .
I have taken on board your advice , I always prepare & cook from fresh I don't eat red meat .
But I will certainly explore this site more .
If you have DaVita dialysis centers in your community, sign-up for their free "Kidney Smart" seminar. Lasts about 2 hours, plus you leave with a bundle of handouts. In particular, lists of high/low sodium, phosphorous and potassium foods.
