Ask your doctor.

Sodium bicarb is used to treat acidosis. I know because I take it. It is usually prescribed by a doctor; I'm not aware of other uses, but you could ask your doctor. I haven't heard it being used to handle water retention. It has sodium and could actually make your water retention worse. That's why it is usually prescribed along with a diuretic. You shouldn't self medicate; discuss with your doctor.

HI Mrs.P70,

Taking anything without checking with the doc is not a good practice. Sodium bicarb is used to help with high acidosis in CKD. But have you been diagnosed with that? Again, do not take this unless prescribed as it changes your blood chemistry. I take something similar prescribed by my doc and it does not work as a diuretic. And you need to drink more water when using it.

I know drinking lemon water or eating a stalk of celery will pull extra fluid, plus drinking lemon water has so many benefits for the kidneys....anyway, check with your doctor.

B6 is beneficial to the metabolism of protein, carbs and helps with glucose balance. Again, this is why you should check with the doctor instead of guessing. You might be taking something that is harmful.

ALWAYS ask your doctor before trying anything. Even over-the-counter supplements should be OK'd by your doctor before you take them. Everyone is different. So, even OK for one of us, does not mean it would be OK for you.
