My mom has CKD for the last 6 yrs. For the initial 5 yrs, we were able to keep the blood levels controlled. 2 months back her creatinine level was 4.16 and now it is 5.76. We are surprised by the sudden increase and don't know what to do. For the last one month she was taking psyllium husk which might have caused this this sudden increase. Is there a way to reduce the level of creatinine now? What is the future for this? Does anyone have experience of the levels stabilizing at higher levels?
Where can I go / write to for alternative options.

I looked at several websites, many saying the fiber was a good thing to add to a renal diet. However, they included natural sources. Is your Mom drinking lots of water? That would be the first thing to check out. I would also ask the doctor about continuing the psyllium- husk. Does your mom eat a lot of meat and other animal protein? I would cut way down on that as well. I have included an article on alternative options, but PLEASE, check with her doctor before taking anything else. Each patient is different. Unfortunately, CKD is progressive. What do her other lab values such as GFR indicate?
I can share my experience. I am diabetic last 20 yrs, on an annual check last dec my labs showed high triglycerides, creatinine, protein urea , and uric acid . I was put in stage 3. I then came on the net found out what was what. Learnt to cut off non veg completely, stopped milk , all butters other than home made, have cut out eggs, other thing I began was juice of 1/4 cucumber, 1/4 radish, 1/2 apple.(all normal) size. pl remember these also have potassium. lab reports showed normal but for Potassium the level did drop by .5.Also stopped coffee and tea, started green tea ?, chamomile tea is good and Basil these are herbs so pl ask your doc.Started taking enough water. try and keep calm anxiety doesn't help. I have to go in for labs again will inform . All the best.
I had a transplant 12yrs ago and I have been doing fairly well with 3.7 creatinine it been high as 6.0 and it was due taking the wrong Medication , but certain medication will cause it to rise quickly , stop talking the Medication until you investigate.
