Living with ckd

Hi, I have a question...I have ckd stage 3 and I was dropping alot of protein every day. Now for the last couple of months I barely see any if any at all. What does that mean? I don't see my nephrologist untill Oct 17 but I'm just very curious. Is this a good thing or bad??

It's probably just me, but I don't understand your post. "... I was dropping a lot of protein every day. Now for the last couple of months, I barely see any if any at all"

As I said, it's probably my not understanding what you mean by "dropping a lot of protein" and "barely seeing any at all." I'm also Stage 3 CKD and my RD has me on a meal plan that is 8 oz. of protein per day (no red meats and no processed foods) and my blood and urine labs every three months are what tells me how I'm doing.

I think if I'm understanding correctly you mean you were leaking protein in your urine- Proteinuria. I'm guessing you are using a dipstick test to check it.

"Nephrotic syndrome develops when there is damage to the glomeruli, the structures in the kidneys that work to filter the blood (figure 1). This damage allows proteins in the blood (such as albumin) to leak into the urine, causing increased excretion of protein (proteinuria) (see "Patient education: Protein in the urine (proteinuria) (Beyond the Basics)"). Eventually, blood levels of albumin become reduced. Accompanying abnormalities of kidney function lead to accumulation of fluid in the tissues (edema).

Have you recently begun taking ACE Inhibitors/ blood pressure medicine such as Lisinopril? If so, then that would mean they are working to help minimize the leaks. If not, perhaps you have gone into some sort of remission. Have you changed your diet and are eating less protein/dairy? if so, that can also help reduce proteinuria.

I'm not sure what type of kidney disease you have and I don't really know all the medical reasons why protein leaks might cease, but I do know that for those of us with proteinuria, the ultimate goal is to decrease it within normal ranges.
