Wish me luck

My partner's birthday is today and I'm cooking supper. The menu isn't imaginative but we like it.

On the homemade side we've got a king prawn cocktail salad starter (how many calories in mayo :( ) and for the main course its ribeye, triple cooked chips (a la Heston), blue cheese sauce and some veggies.

Dessert is a bought in passion fruit pudding. (I have to buy in desserts as most of the ones I try and make look like dynamited whale.)

Don't worry though I've already calculated the calories and I'm using portion control to stay within my calorie count. I've calculated that I'll be fine as long as I don't stray within 7 feet of the finished product :) . This is going to be my biggest test yet by far.

I'll keep "most" of my drinking to diet tonic with Angostura bitters. This is now my go to booze substitute.

That's a bit scary, I got hungry just typing that lot in.

If I'm alive tomorrow I'll post an update.

  • Thanks but I sincerely hope to not go off track. I think I posted that because I was getting scared that I might and it helped to coalesce my thoughts.

    This is only week 5 for me and I'm not terribly knowledgeable about different food groups and their pros and cons, but I've stuck to eating everything I like but in much smaller quantities. Oh, I've increased my fruit and veg intake a lot (not difficult from the starting point I was at) and cut my alcohol intake by an even greater margin (much harder).

    Currently pre-nosh-up bingeing on water :)

  • Cheers Ruby8. I did survive. I only ate half the steak and tried to keep the other portions down. I came in only 60 calories over my limit, so I'm more than happy. I've done worse than that a few times due to alcohol indulgence which then leads to the munchies.

    And guess who's got half a steak to eat tonight :)
