atypical parkinson’s diagnosis and no treatment relief

I am looking for information on treatments that others have received for Atypical Parkinsonism diagnosis.

my neurologist has put me on carbidopa/levodopa, the dosage is 4 every four hours, four times a day. I have tremors I am unbalanced, my speech is affected, I cannot write anymore, and I am extremely emotional. He has not offered any other treatment, and I am wondering if anyone else is on a different treatment plan?

I get the impression that there is no help for atypical Parkinson’s, and we are just going to have to get through life as best we can.

I am extremely depressed, so I have gotten help from a psychiatrist. However, his help has put me in withdrawal from alprazolam, for a change to Clonazapam , and it has exacerbated all symptoms of Parkinson’s and deepened the depression. this change is supposed to take up to a month or more, and when I told him I needed help in getting through the change, I was told to just stay the course. He has also put me on 15 mg of mitrazapine, and I can sleep 10 hours a day. That’s the only relief I seem to get is when I am lying down. I would be most interested in treatments ohers are receiving, and if you are finding any relief.

I would rather be heavily medicated, then spend my days as I am doing. This is only existing, not living.

Thank you for any feedback you may have to offer.

Hi, it sounds as if you are at the start of the process of diagnosing what you have, Levodopa is prescribed to see if you are responsive to it. Some atypical Parkinsons conditions take years to diagnose as there are no tests to confirm but they can rule out others. There are many possible diseases that fit your description but I would look at Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)to get an insight into what I am talking about, there is a PSP forum on healthunlocked.
