Why do I keep having browny discharge?

I am 8 weeks plus 2 and I keep having browny discharge. I had an Early Pregnancy Scan last week and they said that everything is fine. Can someone explain why some women get it and is it normal?

Hello rad22,

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

An increase in vaginal discharge is a common symptom of pregnancy. Read more about 'Secretions in pregnancy' here: nct.org.uk/pregnancy/vagina...

I hope this helps.

Best,

Daphne

Hi rad22,

Firstly big congrats on your pregnancy.

Just so you know the browny discharge is nothing to worry about. I went through exactly the same as you and also went for an wary scan (at 8 weeks). I also had for the first 3 months of pregnancy slight period spotting, which would last from 2 days initially to a couple of hours by the third month then nothing after that. I takes to my midwife about this and she had no concerns and told me to contact the maternity unit only if I started to bleed through a number of pads in an hour.

Note I did inform work just in case something untoward did happen, so that they were aware of my concerns (however that was my choice to do this)

One thing is it was quite nice seeing our baby early and then see baby again only a few weeks later. I had a healthy baby daughter in May perfectly fine with no problems to either me or her.

I am presuming this is your first so just be aware of some of the symptoms of pregnancy that I had. I had some sickness but not much; loss of appetite in the evening (but I lost a stone in weight) and tired at the strangest times.
