So sorry to hear of your baby's stillbirth. It is natural to look for answers that sometimes are just not there. Most hospitals have adopted NICE guidelines about when to induce labour. There is a much higher risk to Mum and baby when labour is chemically induced. This, when balanced with the increased risk of post maturity (Over 42 weeks) gives rise to the decision to let mums have as long as possible to go into labour on their own but to intervene when the statistics show the risk rises. This sadly does not help you come to terms with what has happened and I think seeing a specialist bereavement counselor might help. You should have been offered a de-briefing meeting with your Consultant at the hospital after the birth, usually several weeks after. In future pregnancies you should be closely monitored and unlikely to be left to go that far past your dates again because of your history.

I am so sorry for your loss and hope this answer helps you a bit.
