I think I had a miscarriage...on implanon?

I’ve had this particular contraceptive implant in for about 2 years and 3 months. I am also considered morbidly obese at 175cm tall and 148kg. Doctors say this can reduce the effectiveness of the Implanon and bigger women should replace them sooner. I am also in a long term relationship and we do not use any other form of contraception (including the withdrawal method). Anyway, I have barely had a period in the 4+ years I have used Implanon (this is my second implant) and if I do get a “period” it’s more like spotting for a week or 2. No pain at all. A few weeks ago I was in the most debilitating pain, up awake at night almost in tears while having a particularly heavy bleed and noticed a few large clots when going to the toilet or showering. I have never had clots this big before, some were the size of a raspberry, some long and thin and mucous-y. I mentioned this all to my doctor who said there isn’t really any way to tell if I had a miscarriage but they did test my blood and I am not pregnant. Has anyone else had a similar feeling? I may not be able to find out definitively what happened but it’s weighing on my mind everyday. I would love to hear anyone’s stories of pregnancies or miscarriages while on contraception and how you deal with the mixed emotions that come with that!

I've personally known 2 ladies fall pregnant with the implanon, one was very slim, the other on the larger side. The first found out at 18 weeks, she had been getting back pains that were thought to be kidney stones, an ultrasound on her kidneys showed no stones but something else, maternity ward confirmed it an 18 week fetus, he is now 7!

The second was told by her mum she was looking rather pregnant but didnt think she could be because of the implant, doctor said she was around 14 weeks, so made an appointment for a termination, where they then told her she was over 24 weeks gone and they couldnt do it, she was then later assessed and told she was around 28 weeks, he turned 1 today! Both girls were 18/19 at the time of conception.

If the blood test came back negative it is unlikely you are having a miscarriage, hcg still stays in your blood for a time after in low levels. The implanon gave me some awful periods the second time i had it, so much so that I asked for it out after 6 months.

How are you feeling about it all? These sorts of things can sometimes feel like a bullet dodged, or like you are missing something xx
