Prenatal Vitamins

The prenatal vitamins I've been taking have started making me extremely sick. I've tried taking them at different times of the day and I always eat with them but now when ever I take them in the next 10 minutes I'll be throwing up. I haven't had any morning sickness besides getting a little nauseous besides that. Any advice or recommendations on what I can do to help? It's gotten to the point I dread taking them because they make me so nauseous 🤢

If you’re vomiting soon after taking them they’re not staying in your system anyway. Have you tried taking them after eating your biggest meal of the day, once you already have a full stomach, as that can help some people? Also nausea often goes in waves so maybe try to take them at a time when you’re feeling 100% ok.

The most important vitamin to take is folic acid which you can take on its own if needs be, it’s often the extra iron in pregnancy vitamins that causes the problem. I’d have a chat to your health provider about it to see what they suggest.

Good luck, this is very common xx

If I try to take it right after I eat even a big meal I just get really sick and throw it all up until nothing is on my stomach. If I take it with a light meal then the same result happens. The only thing I've found that even some what helps is taking it right before I fall asleep but if I don't time it right I just throw them up anyway. 😪 My first appointment is on the 15th this weekend I'm gonna try switching to maybe a gummy and seeing if that helps.

I was exactly the same. In the end I gave up and just brought the boots folic acid and vitamin d tablet. I think it was the zinc in the tablets that made me sick.

I don't know what it is but this weekend I'm going to try switching to something else. I'm currently taking Enfamil and it's two separate vitamins so that might be why I'm not sure.

You can actually buy prenatal victims in liquid form for this reason. I know the brand pregnacare do. Might be more expensive though but worth trying out

I will look into that this weekend thanks for the suggestion. 😊

It'll be ok just to take folic acid for a while as this is the most important supplement for the baby and it doesn't cause nausea or sickness as it's not an iron.

As long as you've been having, and are still getting, a reasonably healthy diet you and baby will be fine with just the folic acid until the nausea passes, after all it's only fairly recently that we've started to supplement at all!

I've not heard of the liquid supplement, sounds good though as it'll be absorbed faster and will be well hidden, it'd be interesting to see if that works for you.

Good luck xx

Try getting a brand with added ginger, this seemed to help me when I was pregnant it helps to stave off the nausea.
