Baby goes bump in the night - please help sleep deprived mum

My 8 month old is a real sleep wriggler and has now started to bump his head against the headboard of his cot bed with such a force that it wakes him up and makes him cry ...a few times through the night now 😔

I was hoping to get some sort of padding but it turns out that even on the headboard it's a bad idea where SIDS is concerned (we have breathable mesh "bumpers" along the side).

It only seems to give him a bit of a shock but is unfortunately adding to his wake up routine ...feed, bump, teething, bump, feed, bump etc. So I am now at a point where I can't remember what 3 hours straight sleep is like ...though I hear it's nice.

Please help xx

Hi,

If it is always on the top headboard have you thought about angling the mattress? We were advised to do that when my daughter has a chest infection when she was about 8 months, roll a towel and put under mattress, that way the angle not too steep but may be enough to stop head banging. May be worth a try? X

Could you place him at the bottom of the cotbed, so far away from the top and tuck his blankets under the mattress on the sides and bottom so he's less likely to wriggle upwards?

Thanks for the suggestion Georgina, it used to work really well but now he's so big and strong he shoots up like a rocket. It's got to the point now that my sleep deprived mind has been contemplating the merits of Velcro - is there such a thing as ethical baby Velcro? xx
