I've just moved for a new job and found out I'm

Pregnant, I have no idea how far gone I am and have no GP what should I do next? Can I just go to the hospital without a referral?

Congratulations! You definitely need to register with your local GP ASAP - not just to be referred to the midwife unit but for your healthcare during pregnancy, baby's access to health visitors once he or she has arrived etc.

when registering at the GP ask the receptionist what their process is for registering with a midwife - sometimes they're based at the GP or there could be a separate unit elsewhere.

Enjoy your pregnancy! :-)

Oh and to find out how far along you are you'll need to now the first day of your last period then use an online due date calculator (babycentre.co.uk have one) and that will tell you how far along you are and give you an estimated due date - a scan will confirm your due date at around 12 weeks x

Thank you, I literally moved here last week so have not had chance to register need to make this a priority now. I can't work out my due date as I was on contreception and don't get periods, my body dosent react very well to contreception and I've been pregnant before but it was while I was at university so at the time I had to have an abortion. I think im around 4-5weeks just how I feel but hopefully I can find out soon.

Thank you x

Get yourself registered with a GP they may refer you for an early scan if you don't know you LMP and they will tell you how far gone you are. Congratulations on your pregnancy, let us know how you get on:-)

I'm going to a GP surgery tonight, but I have to register, the doctor checks the registration form and signs it off so I can go there but I'll explain the situation to the receptionist and hopefully they can sort it quicker, I just really want to know how many weeks I am. I'm trying to work out how long I felt different, and how far gone would I be before I noticed to come up with a date. Any idea how long I will wait for a scan? X

I had a docs app on the Tues and they rang the EPU for me and then I had my app on the Thurs. I had to wait an age for them to refer me for my 12 week scan. It may take a few days for them to process your details and then book you in for a scan or they may be able to ring and do it. Good luck, let us know how you get on:-)

I never know my dates either as have zero regular periods, it's not that much of a concern as they can determine dates from the 12 weeks scan - just get yourself signed up asap, explain things to the GP and they'll book you in for a scan probably sooner rather than later to determine how far along you are (or at least, that's what they did for me). Good luck!
