Hi, myositis is an overall term which is broken down into a number of autoimmune and medical conditions. Generally muscle weakening is one of the symptoms that has more impact on mobility but there are lots of symptoms which individuals suffer from. Some forms of myositis are treatable, some are not. You really need to get your GP involved, provide details of all of the symptoms you have and perhaps also be prepared for a long wait for a confirmed diagnosis. Numerous scans, biopsies and blood tests are usually done on the diagnosis road. Neurologists/Rheumatologists are the Doctors usually involved in the hospital side of things. Don't be fobbed off if you believe something is wrong, ( as an example it took me nearly 4 years for a confirmed diagnosis of IBM. For the first 2 I was repeatedly told it was aging/anxiety issues). It would take a long time to list all of the symptoms for the various types of myositis.

Please see a Doctor. I hope it all goes well for you. Regards

Thank you so much . Appreciate your reply. I have so many symptoms. Which I’ve already passed onto the rheumatologist. When I see her in 2 weeks I shall mention other symptoms I’ve been getting . I’ll ask for a muscle biopsy & scan .

Biopsy is becoming less common - antibody blood test is normally used and is pretty accurate for diagnosis. My experience has been neurologist and neuromuscular consultant are better for diagnosis (generally they run EMG, MRi, bloodwork and biopsy, if they feel it is needed). They are often have better knowledge on such illnesses symptom and causes . Rheumatologist often treating myopathies as they are more knowledgable on how to suppress the immune system. I have seen all 3 in my journey ending up under a neuromuscular consultant.
