Shift Needed in Research, Treatment, Care for Aging MS Population

NASHVILLE, Tennessee — For the first time, the majority of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the United States are, or soon will be, over age 55, a phenomenon that's driving a shift in priorities including the creation of MS aging centers and a push for more clinical trials aimed at this growing patient population.

This issue really does need to be re-examined. I have been getting emails from various places about signing up for studies and clinical trials for decades, but once I hit 55 ten years ago, I no longer qualified for anything. It's very frustrating that the pharmaceutical companies have little, if any, data on the effects of their DMT's on anyone over 50. Thanks for posting this.

Great article clearly pointing out that research needs to shift from RRMS to aging and SPMS. As my neurologist told me, the market is flooded with RRMS drugs. Thanks for posting.
