I finally got to see a urogynecologist for pelvic pain yesterday, and she had this sign in her bathroom: SOMETIMES I LAUGH SO HARD, THE TEARS RUN DOWN MY LEG

Hey CatsandCars! I was so busy laughing at this post, that I forgot to ask how your visit with the urogyn went! Was the doctor able to give you any answers for your pelvic pain? 🤗

Thank you so much for asking, Helpmeup. I should issue a TMI warning for those who are unfamiliar with what a urogynecologist does.😊I was impressed with the doctor. She asked if I noticed any correlation with my other MS symptoms, and I said yes, muscle problems in my neck worsened at the same time, etc. Menopause has also made some, er, tissues unhappy as well. So she ordered 12 weeks of pelvic floor physical therapy, injections of numbing medications into three trigger points (one injection in one place per week), and some medications. Estrogen cream, (which I will try again but actually seemed to make my pain worse in the past for some crazy reason), and compounded vaginal Valium to relax the pelvic floor muscles. I did not know there was such a thing, but I am intrigued! She said if all that fails to get me significant relief, at that point insurance will probably pay for botox trigger point injections. So after not having a lot of options for a long time, there's suddenly a lot to try, which is very encouraging. I just need to figure out what to do with the "connected" hip flexor muscles, which are so tight and angry that I can't walk very far without excruciating pain. I have an appointment soon with an MS specialist who can hopefully help me sort that out. I would kill to be able to walk around the block again!

Wow. It sounds like you got a lot of good info and good options as well. I was a little intrigued by the "urogyno" as I always thought there were urologists and/or gynecologists, but never knew there was a combined specialty. I'm so glad to hear you may finally get some relief for your issues. Menopause can certainly wreak havoc in a hundred ways, including "vaginal atrophy", a term I always hated! 😂 If you are going to P.T. for pelvic floor therapy, they would be a good choice to stretch those hip flexors too. I am with you - I'd kill to walk around the block. Walking used to be one of my favorite things to do, but it's been years since I have been able to walk any distances. Good luck with all the therapy, hope it goes your way. 🤗🤗🤗

Thanks so much for your good wishes. Yeah, "vaginal atrophy" sounds bad and I guess you could tell I was trying not to say it!🤣

I did actually go to Pelvic Floor PT last year, and the therapist was okay with working on the hip flexors too, but she was a tad conservative because I think she was afraid of hurting me. So I'm definitely going to ask when I call the new PT place if they can help with my hips, too, especially since you only get so many sessions per year covered by insurance. Also, because of the pain pills and muscle relaxers I take, my poor husband frequently has to drive me and sit out in the car for an hour. You've gotta do what you've gotta do for your health, but I would like to limit him having to do that as much as possible, especially in the winter!

As far as docs with double specialities go, I actually saw one way back when I got diagnosed with MS in 2001. I got optic neuritis, and I went to a very nice ophthalmologist who couldn't quite understand why my vision was so bad when my eye looked so healthy. By the time I got home, she must have had a realization because there was a message on my machine telling me she had made me an appointment at 9 am the next day with a neuro-opthamologist at a university in a nearby city. My first thought was crap, what on earth is wrong with me? My second thought was wow, a neuro-opthamologist...he must be an overachiever.🤣 As if anyone would want an underachiever for a doctor, right? But it was really so kind of the first doctor to arrange that for me, and the neuro-optho was great. After a long day of MRIs and all kinds of tests, I got diagnosed on the same day, no waiting. Compared to today where it takes months to see a specialist, it seems quite amazing to me that it really happened that way!

I'm sorry you can't go for walks anymore. MS really is a thief that steals from you, and not being able to do simple things like that is a big loss. Probably one of many. ☹️ I'm sending you a virtual hug!
