Has anyone tried autophagy for MS? I'd like to give it a try.
You don't understand. Autophagy is a process of the cells of your body. It is not something that you "do" as a treatment for MS.
I think the body has a way of turning off the immune reaction to things you eat, which is where the idea that eating honey might help stop pollen allergies came from. So in theory eating bits of yourself _might_ I suppose reduce an autoimmune problem. But I really wouldn't advise nibbling your fingers!
I think there are ways to turn on off auto phage: exercise, fasting etc. (per what I’ve read)
Sorry, I really meant autophagy by intermittent fasting, and as erash pointed out, there are several youtube video discussions of this. Looks very interesting.
There’s been some discussion of this on YouTube I’ve viewed recently
Using intermittent fasting to trigger the body to consume stored fat, seems to have benefits for MS, potentially repairing damage to the blood brain barrier, the gut biome, and general nerve damage/cellular damage. Thanks for pointing me to youtube. I'm going to give it a try, and aim to report my results back to this forum.
Never heard of this can you please explain?
Hi Mark1499, for a simple explanation of the process, see Dr. Aaron Boster here: youtube.com/watch?v=NpSAGpH...
The youtube link doesn't work here, so you can find it by "intermittent fasting" on Dr. Aaron Boster's channel. You'll find other discussions on youtube.
It worked for me. Thanks. I am fortunate in that I already do this. The only thing I can see is that I need to increase my protein intake and decrease my carbs a little. My wife tells me she can’t understand how I’m able to go so long without eating. I wake up every day at 5 AM eat something around 6 or 7 then eat my last meal at around 4 PM. After 4 I don’t eat anything until 6 or 7 the next morning. Thanks for the info!
I get it. For years now I eat 2 granola bars around 8 AM, then a light supper around 7 PM. I don't remember how long ago it was when I had lunch. Probably because I don't like sandwiches! I will add that probably this will have to change as I am anemic now with my count going down almost an entire point in about 5 months.
I have tried a variety of supposed autophagy inducing things, from a ketogenic diet (medical and fad) to fasting (intermittent, extended, water and dry), and figured out what makes me feel my best.
I've been eating breakfast at 8am and evening meal at around 4-5 pm for the last 3 years. Not through choice. That's what you have to do in hospitals, care homes or if having home carers. I don't know what effect it has had on me, because there have been so many other things happening simultaneously.
