Memory & Brain Supplements

Is anyone taking any supplements to aid with MS "cog fog" or other cognitive issues? I've been using Andrew Lessman's Memory & Brain with Acetyl L-Carnitine. It's too early to tell what benefits I will achieve, but it's worth the chance.

I retired at age 45 (dx May 1994 started Avonex September 1997). MS-related fatigue and cognitive dysfunction forced me out of my student affairs position. How has the Mon Ster impacted your cognitive abilities? 😂🤞😜

I have a bottle of exogenous ketones and take a dose when I'm really foggy, but have not used much in a long time. Very pricey, but works quickly.

I take aricept. Have for 18 years. It isn’t supposed to be effective in MS but for me it helps a lot. Still have issues but I wouldn’t dare go without it.

Unfortunately, I tried it and it gave me horrible leg cramps? But, I only tried it for about six weeks and stopped so. . ? Have you had any side effects from it?

DM0329, Supplements can be powerful drugs that affect other drugs prescribed by your doctors. Make sure you let your neurologist know what you're taking and how much and OK within before you start. I don't do supplements for my brain because I take enough jaguar already and I don't want to put more stuff in my system then I have to. I do however play tons of computer games that stretch the mind and keep me active in the brain solving puzles looking for words and word searches Searching for items, looking for different items on 2 cm grains, I play cards and I play strategy games, Just to name a few. I do have trouble sometimes remembering the word I want to say but other than that I think my brain stays very sharp and even my friend's comment on how sharp I am. Try the drug freeway and start playing computer games, reading books, etc etc. Fancy59.

Hello,I too left my job in 2012 due to fatigue and brain fog, I was the director of an Early Intervention and Preschool program. I couldn't keep up with all the changes, and my brain was fried by 1 PM. I was 58 yrs old at the time.

Earlier this year while fatigue came to visit again my therapist recommended Acetyl L- Carnitine and it has helped some with fatigue and cog fog. It was just difficult to find, I get it on Amazon. I didn't know about Andrew Lessman's product.

Spend many years since I was on avonex I'm now transitioned to secondary progressive so I'm not on any therapy at this time. As for cogfog I had a assessment from a neuropsychologist to test my brain for the quote cogfog and I tested well. I still have times where I'm forgetful and I'm searching for words. But I'm not as bad as I thought I was. I use my cell phone to keep track of dates and time. Along with the paper calendar on my wall. Otherwise I wouldn't go anywhere or do anything because I wouldn't remember the time. All I can say is good luck and try electronics to help with your original brain function.

Thanks so much for your input. Unfortunately (or fortunately? LOL) when I had my neuropsych evaluation when "retiring" when I was age 45, my text provided the quantitative & qualitative descriptions of what my severely damaged MRI presented. OMG!

But, I was 'lucky' to be dx at age 25. No tx back then but I started on Avonex September 1997 until March 2022; when I switched to Aubagio. I love the once-a-day pill but HATE what it's done to my HAIR! LOL

Just entered my first full year in official menopause? Stay tuned. . .Happy Holidays!

I am curious as to what it has done to your hair? A lot of meds will mess with our hair so I try to avoid them when possible. I have an electric wand that stimulates the scalp. It works great for people that have had to go through chemo or any kind of procedure or medication that makes your hair fall out.

Thanks for sharing. Aubagio causes "temporary" hair loss. Although "my hair is still mostly there" it is VERY THINNER. I cut my hair much shorter (chin length bob) and use a ton of volumizing mousse.

FWIW, it's only been since April 15 that I have been on Aubagio. It's only been EIGHT months. So, who knows? But, I love the pills. After 25 years of the intramuscular injections, a daily pill is AWESOME. HAIR IS SO OVERRATED TOO! 😜

I was on avonex 2013-2014 but it messed with my thyroid so I stopped and went on to trefecus for another year and a half and then that messed with my blood counts now I have been on aubagio for over two years, Hope that whatever meds. you are taking that they work for you.

i tried l-carnitine, but as i'm allergic to (almost) everything, i had a reaction and had to stop. i read this novel by stephen king called dumas key. in it, a person with tbi thought "sideways," or instead of trying to force himself to remember the word, he'd start with associations he could remember and get to the word that way. i've been doing that and it works pretty well.

hi

I did take Avonex only for one year back in 2000. The side effects for me were so bad I wasn’t able to handle them.

In 2000 they didn’t know as much as they do now. I have been on many DMT’s.

I have found that a combo of holistic medicine, and modern medicine works the best for me.

Let me know if you have questions. I diagnosed in 2000. 25 years of living with MS.
