How in the h..., heck, ( you thought I was going to say something else didn't you!) are you? My burning question is what is your favorite part of Thanksgiving. Let's share what we love the most and your answer can be more than one thing! I will list mine at the end of the post so I don't give you all ideas. I want to see yours 1st then I will list mine. Everyone who is traveling please be safe and remember the Destination will wait for you if you are late so don't rush. Fancy 59.

My favorite holiday of the year! At this point in time, it's mostly the memories. Everyone crammed together in my grandparents' house, literally standing room only for half of us. Grandpa's oyster stuffing, Granny's mincemeat pie with the inedible crust. The other women trying to outdo each other with new vegetable dishes. All of us tripping over each other with a million conversations going at once. So many desserts that you couldn't possibly sample every one. The men would retire to the living room and football while the women made short work of the dishes and packing up the leftovers. Then we'd head out for a nice walk around the neighborhood so we'd have room to try the rest of the goodies. The family's a lot smaller now, but I still cook enough food for a small army. 😀

It's low stress family time! Feast, naps, and football entertain well. The Christmas tree gets brought out in the evening and everyone helps. Might watch Elf before bed 🤣

Happy memories of lots of kids, dogs, extended family. chestnut stuffing, all the desserts and the subsequent walk with the whole brood. Turkey for days on end although i am now a vegetarian. Now I am appreciating the classic movies and my pup, Riley

I am vegetarian now too, but I will enjoy the stuffing, stuffed mushrooms I prepared (with walnuts), potatoes, etc. Have a good day friend!

They are one of my favorites. I took some to some friends house tonight so that we could compare to their recipe. Theirs has the usual suspects in it, but mine was better with the walnuts! I hope you had a good day.

We don’t have thanksgiving in the U.K. So everyone have a great time. I am missing out on some great desserts 🍨

You are! My great-grandmother's pumpkin pie recipe, pumpkin roll, mincemeat (fruit) pie, Welsh cakes, chocolate candies, baklava, cheesecake...

The chocolate candies will do me thank you 😊

I think it's just wrong that you English people don't like pumpkin pie! 😆

Now you've made me look up turnip pie, and I think I need to try both the sweet and savory versions. So there. [insert Verity's photo here]

I read your comment and thought that you wrote ‘chocolate candles’, and I was not sure what they were but I wanted them! Wow!

NorasMom in reply tocarolek572

I'm sure they have them on Amazon. My daughter keeps begging me for one that looks like a bowl of Froot Loops. 😱

my favorite thanksgiving dessert is pecan pie

My mom always made mince meat pie. Honestly I had forgotten about it until you said something. I used to eat it with her because nobody else would! She was my best friend ever.

Sandydemop profile image
Sandydemop in reply toNorasMom

mincemeat?

NorasMom profile image
NorasMom in reply toSandydemop

It's kind of like a sweet chutney made with apples, raisins, and lots of spices. I grew up with the addition of green tomatoes in it.

Sandydemop profile image
Sandydemop in reply toNorasMom

so no actual meat?

NorasMom profile image
NorasMom in reply toSandydemop

Lol. Not in the US. 😀 I think they have a meat or suet variation in the UK. We'll need to hear back from Jimeka on that.

Sandydemop profile image
Sandydemop in reply toNorasMom

does it need a name change? and i'm not familiar with chutney either. Where do you live?

NorasMom profile image
NorasMom in reply toSandydemop

lol. Ohio Valley region/edge of the Appalachians. I don't know if it's an early New England tradition or a hillbilly thing. For chutney, think relish made with big chunks or really lumpy jam without the gel. It can be either sweet or savory and made out of nearly any type of fruit.

Sandydemop profile image
Sandydemop in reply toNorasMom

hmmm. A cuisine i know nothing about. that can't be good. I will have to search for chutney and mincemeat pie. can i get it delivered?

I'm from Maine and the mincemeat I remember has venison (deer Meat) with the fruit, Our deer hunting season is in the month of November. It can be made without the meat also.

Having people at my table, this year we are four but love the opportunity to just talk not text email I will talk with my youngest girl who hardly calls. Time spent. Birthdays, holidays when my girls ask what do you want for …? My answer never changes “Your presence will be my gift” and I mean it.

We travel to see my husband’s family. It’s a 4-5 hour car ride, so not horrible. We meet up at my sister-in-law’s. She lives on a 30 acre pistachio farm. It’s so much fun for all the kids to run around and be crazy. My husband has such an amazing family! Of course there’s tons of great food, but we have the best laughs and conversations. My 4 year old has been asking if it’s thanksgiving everyday because she wants to see all her cousins. I definitely cherish the time we have there!

Everyone's replies centered around family, food, friends, and laughs. Joyous activities to be sure one and all! I found myself reminiscing about the past however. When I was able to fix the delicious turkey. When I was able to stroll through the crowd and catch up with all the family and friends. I wasn't able to use my Walker to walk through the crowd as I had hoped. I took a couple falls this past week and it sent me back a bit. So I got pushed in on my wheelchair and I waved and saìd hello to a dozen people as I came in. Then I got pushed into the living room where they even moved a chair to make sure I could sit and watch football, oh boy. Conversations were buzzing all around me on every topic you could imagine. However they buzzed over my head as no one included me in a single one. I set there fighting back the tears wondering how I could feel so alone surrounded by 35 family members.

Shortly thereafter food was served and my husband came over to me to see what I wanted to eat. That was the 1st time anyone spoke to me after I got parked in front of the TV. It got better at the table as I was able to eat and talk with a dozen family members seated around the table. After we got done eating, my youngest son came and got me and we went out on the front porch and sat around and talked in the beautiful afternoon. It was enjoyable on a smaller scale. It's funny how even close family forget you when your face isn't mixed in with the crowd but you're still there. I understand no one left me out on purpose but the result was the same. It wasn't the Thanksgiving I remember from years past. The food was just as good but it's just not the same when you sit in a chair with extremely limited mobility.

Please don't write back and tell me you're sorry about my Thanksgiving. Living with MS as we do, we all understand how effects each and every one of us differently. I'm so very glad that all of you sounded like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, except Jimeka.🦃Fancy59.
