Wow, does that mean the new generation's left legs gave up the ghost too?

When my husband got his very first automatic transmission car, his uncle tried telling him to use his left foot for the brake and the right one for the accelerator. I cut him off explaining why that was a really bad idea. He asked "What are you supposed to do with the left foot then? Leave it at home?" My response "If you want to. Sure." You should have seen everyone's shocked faces! πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ By the way...that was back in 1997, shortly after the birth of our third son. Automatic transmissions were almost unheard of in Italy and are still hard to come by.

That's funny! Although I wasn't very good at driving stick shift πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

My dad tried teaching me in a '64 pickup. On a steep hill. Going down. After teaching each other a few words that we didn't know the other one already knew, we gave up that idea and I stuck with automatics.

Drivers ed, we learned on a "3 on the tree". But we sorta knew how to drive a stick by driving a tractor at 7 or 8.. haha

Ok, I’m not going to lie, I never learned to drive a stick shift! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈWe only had one car that wasn’t automatic and it was my dad’s off road Suzuki samurai. He yelled a lot when I drove with him and it freaked me out, so I refused to drive with him at all! Maybe one day I’ll learn…he still has the samurai πŸ˜‚

The funny part is that he still has the Samurai. My wife couldn't drive a stick either as her father was downright brutal when trying to teach her. Many years later, she found a 92 Volvo 240 wagon (245) with a manual transmission. I tried to teach her... it didn't work, so I put an automatic transmission in it, rebuilt everything including paint job. The car even made it into a magazine!

I’m sure I’ll inherit that car someday, lol! That’s amazing you rebuilt the car!

I had 3 stick shifts and LOVED them. My last car was automatic with optional manual shift use but it wasn’t the same. It came in handy on snow/ice covered roads but everyday driving just wasn’t the same(no clutch). I don’t drive at all anymore and my husband could never learn stick(no coordination) so he has always had an automatic. I was great in the early days of our marriage because he couldn’t drive my car so the seat stayed put and the radio was never touched!! My 20 yr old son just asked today who Lionel Richie is. This getting older is definitely amplified by having kids of a younger generation. πŸ€ͺ
