I had my heart cath Thursday afternoon. While waiting for my turn, my endocrinologist called to tell me my thyroid was low again. That would explain some of the fatigue I was having. I really needed to hear that right before I was about to experience a "roto-rooter event". But my BP was down and everything went fine, the dr said my plumbing looked good & that we will deal with the afib with meds. They told me to take it easy for a couple of days, no straining or lifting anything over 5 lbs. I told the nurse "No problem" and to my husband "honey you get to cook for a couple of days" which didn't bother him since he likes to cook & is better than I am at it. So we got home about 8 pm from the hospital (it's 2 hrs away). Settled in & my husband noticed the water pressure was a little low. (We have our own well & pump in rural America) He said we need to check the well in the morning. Just what I wanted to do. So the next morning we went out to the well (he never wants to go alone because of snakes (he's afraid of them) that like to hide in the well house) and the pump was running. All of the faucets were off so it shouldn't have been running. So we then followed the path of the pipes to the house. Sure enough, there was a little stream of water running down the small slope. Of course, the leaves from the trees (we actually live in the Ouachita National Forest) are about half a foot thick out there. My husband said, "it's probably where I had to splice it when I put the pipe down." He was right! So we got rakes & shovels, a pickax, and a big pole used for ??? that was about 6' long. Mind you here in Arkansas we don't have dirt, we have clay & we also "grow rocks". Everywhere you dig is a rock and they come up out of the ground when it rains real hard or when you go to mow so that the mower blades need sharpening every time you mow. Because the ground was so saturated with water, the clay was more like quicksand with rocks. He dug a 4' wide X 3' deep hole & had to take out 4 giant rocks that were approximately 12"-18" around & weighed almost more than he could lift, especially with muddy gloves as wet clay is slippery. All the while I'm standing there handing him this shovel or that shovel etc. or I'm driving the golf cart up and down to the well house to turn on the water so he could see exactly where the water was coming from to find the pipe. I did that 3 times (it hurt my incision cuz it's a bumpy road). We had it marked at one time but in 5 years I guess the critters thought it would be fun to remove the flags off of the trees & the ground. They are always playing games on our porch with my plants by knocking them over or digging in them. By this time I am exhausted & my incision is starting to hurt. But I persevered & stayed with him until he got it fixed. He didn't want to keep his phone on him cuz of the water and mud, I didn't want him to die cuz he was stuck in the mud with no phone. Mind you he is also disabled, with heart & circulatory problems & shouldn't have even been out there doing that but won't call anyone for help. He said it's going to cost us a small fortune to the plumber that's already coming out to fix the gray water drain line from the kitchen & one bathroom (mine of course) that busted & was leaking out into the dog's yard (Jack kept coming in with muddy feet), so he didn't want to pay them to fix the waterline too & it wasn't under the house where "snakes lie in wait." He was finally successful at fixing the leak. We now have water pressure again. I could barely move this morning though. I took my meds & that has helped. The good thing is I didn't lose the "plug" they put in my groin where they start the heart cath & so far I'm not bruised anywhere. I thought I would be bruised from my knees to my neck from all pressure they were putting on it after the dr was done. It was the anesthesiologist that was putting on the pressure & she is a short stocky woman with a great sense of humor, she said she was practicing kneading cuz she likes to make bread. I know this was a long story... but I have a lot of time on my hands today as I told my husband that I'm not doing anything today but sit around! Thank's for listening & caring, y'all are a great group of people.
Heart Cath: I had my heart cath Thursday... - My MSAA Community
Heart Cath
Pleased your HC went ok and that the results were good. Sorry you were faced with all the trouble of a burst pipe when you got back, I hope your hubby doesnβt feel too rough after all that hard work. Anyway take it easy and what meds have they put you on for your Afib? Blessings Jimeka π€
Oh, my. We had to dig out the well casing one time, and that was bad enough.
big pole = digging iron? Thin flat wedge on one end with a small flat circle at the other end?
There are several threads to your recounting, all of them interesting. First of all, I'm awfully pleased that you didn't overdo it after the heart cath. For self reliant folks, it's so easy to misjudge limitations, thinking I'll just help by...
Though you took the golf cart back and forth to the well house, the rough ride was not helpful to your healing so I hope you took it easy and rested for the rest of the weekend.
I had a heart cath done.. Hospital was 4 hrs away.. I drove a pick-up to and from.. alone.. manual transmission.. by the time I got home.. I was purple/orange/red.. from lower abdomen to top of knee.. thiegh was totally colorful.. needless to say.. I didn't do much the next day, except feed the chickens and ducks.. dogs.. myself (as my husband was off working on a movie at this time) no one home but me.. daughter was off at college.. just me and the animals.. helpful as they may be.. they just can't make coffee... haha
I lived thru it.. (cuz you just have to sometimes)..
Best thoughts to you..
Just want you to know that someone DOES know how you feel... that you are not alone!!
Thank you. I'm sorry you had to drive yourself, that had to be rough. Yes the animals are great but they just don't seem to want to adapt to human ways completely. I keep telling Jack, our dog that he needs to learn to do the dishes when I'm tired but he just looks at me as if he's saying "Yeah, I'll get right on that after my nap."π
Glad to hear the heart cath went well and that your water pressure is back! Get some rest β€οΈ
i'm glad the procedure went well, though i got a bit nervous as you described helping fix the leak. please be gentle with yourself.π€
You're tough!
Now I am wondering what your idea of taking it easy is....
Light labor such as plowing a field? By hand, with a fork, in 100 degree heat, with a gorilla named Bobo on your back?
I am starting to feel a tinge of guilt for accomplishing nothing of note.
I hope you heal up quickly!
Most shovels weigh over 5 lbs. so I hope you were being careful! Very glad to hear that project is over and I hope it's a very, very long time, if ever, that you both have to tackle something like that again!
On my, always wanted a farm....no more!sometimes we have to do what we need to but please heal. There is only one of ykh. They caught your heart early thank.goodness.Mine not so.Sounds like a good doctor.
So glad your heart cath is done. I was praying hard about that! I am sorry about your leak. Don't you hate water problems? Be kind to yourself, hairbrain!
Glad to hear that everything is good & you managed to help fix the water problem. You both need to relax for a few days. God bless you both Mary
so glad all went good for you on check on your heart ...sorry about the water pressure issue for we also still have a well and we don't want to loose our water, so glad you found the problem and was able to fix it yourself ...i wouldn't have been out there if you have snakes ...yuck i hate them ...sorry ...so glad you didn't cause your incision to come open ...take care and relax ...let us know about all you hear about that they find ...love and much happiness ....
Thanks. I didn't hurt anything as a matter of fact it's almost completely healed & I only had a quarter sized bruising. A friend of mine was sure I was going to be black & blue all over like she was. Now she's mad at meπ₯Ί I'm not afraid of snakes but my husband is. His fear goes back to his childhood when they moved to Arkansas. We have a lot of Copperheads & Water moccasins here. They were turning a one room cabin into a house. It was at the base of a small mountain & next to a creek. They would drive to AR from CA once a month for the weekend to work on it. At first they would kill 15 to 20 Copperheads the 1st day & about half that the next day. That went on for about 6 months until the house was ready. They still had a lot after they moved in. After he & I got married we lived in that house for awhile & the snakes were still there! Although not that bad, we just had to watch where walked. So we still watch where we are going, we've had a few water moccasins around the house but mostly black snakes which are good snakes cuz they keep the bad ones away. The well house did have a Copperhead living in it when we moved here but he's gone nowπ€
i swear you were writing my biography! what an ordeal... so glad things are looking up,my husband is also disabled with heart and kidney failure.life is rough, so i always make sure i don't miss a piece of sunshine, the dark days move in very often so i try to head them off.take care of both of youπ
Sorry to hear about your husband. My husband's problems came to light due to his kidney function. Back in 2001 he had an experimental angio on his artery going to his kidney. He was the 1st person to have it done. They did f I've others that month after him & 3 of them died. Now they do that procedure as routinely as they do the heart. It lasted for about 15 years before starting to close down. They didn't put a stint in cuz they couldn't get it thru but now they use different stunts that are a little more flexible. He had a quad bypass 12 yes ago & hernia surgery 11 yrs ago where a nurse that the anesthesiologist gave the code to, opened his pain meds line to free flow instead of his regular IV line & he coded at 1:15 am. He's been disabled ever since. Prayers for both of you.πππ
