Lightweight mobility scooter

Good morning MS family

Any suggestions on lightweight mobility scooters? I cannot lift the one I have and my husband is 81 and cannot do the lifting anymore. It would also have to be small so it could fit in the back of a Kia (not much trunk space there) Thanks

I’ll be following this. If you are using an insurance plan, they may only cover certain models. I’d like to find a good quality one that could be loaded easily in a car and could be taken on airplanes. I’ve looked online at several, but it would help to talk with other folks who have actually used them.

I agree. My insurance is Medicare so I know they won't cover it. Usually I get good feedback from everyone. The website Cutefreckles suggested has ALOT which is almost too many for me. I'll let you know if I get any good leads.😀

Hi, have you checked Spinlife.com? They have lightweight scooters and chairs. Now they are expensive, and I don't know if insurance will pay for them or not.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm going to explore their website. They have many models. Thanks again!

I have seen TravelScoot travelscoot.com which looks super light but I think it doesn’t look steady enough for me. No arm rests. 🙁 Heaviest part is 22lbs. Some versions 18.5 lbs. Foldable. It costs $3000!

Thanks so much. Certainly, looks lightweight but 3 wheels makes me a little nervous. Balance & I are not the best of friends. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Hi! If you need a very light and portable scooter, the Travel Scoot is a good choice. It fits everywhere and is very light. The cons is that it need to be assembled and disassembled. It is not so automatic

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm not comfortable with three wheels. They seem a little off balance and I don't need any help in tipping over. I excel in that on my own!! (I'm sure many of you can relate!)😳

I understand, I feel exactly the same. Four-wheeled scooters are far more stable on uneven surfaces

Pride Mobility is a good brand. We have only used the GoGo which is probably too heavy for you even though it breaks into 4 parts, but over 15 years we have been happy with the quality and the easy ability to get replacement parts. I see Spin Life has a Pride travel scooter that breaks down like ours. The heaviest part is only 28 pounds. That heavy part will be the back wheels and I think they made them smaller and lighter than the GoGo. Smaller battery, too, so less range and power. The breakdown process is not bad. With practice you can break it down and load it in the car in under 2 minutes. The trade off with lightweight scooters is always the range and stability. Three wheels are more tippy than 4 and light weight is less stable. Always hit slopes with front wheel pointed straight. My husband has tipped over twice in 15 years. Once was going up a ramp at the airport where he made the turn too sharply and once was at night in an alley in NOLA where he hit a pothole he didn’t see in the dark.
