Does or has anyone else have a problem with the contrast they inject into you when you go for your MRI. My kidneys are now damaged.

I have been having MRI’s for twenty seven years with contrast and no problems🤞. Probably 40 plus, we are all different and effected differently. Have they proved this is the cause? Hope you get feeling better and things work out 🙏 I have heard the new MRI machines are better and don’t need contrast , but it does enhance areas effected? Good Luck Ken 🐾🐾

Thank you I go for a blood test oct 18 to check my creatine level it came back normal right before my last mri but before that my creatine levels were elevated.

Can you clarify what you've written - you've said that the tests were done before your last MRI and one was normal and the other elevated. If they were both done before your scan why would your kidneys be damaged as a result of your scan and how would you know this? If it's just a typo and you meant to write that the test which showed a higher than normal level was actually done after your scan, then be aware that one elevated creatinine result does not necessarily mean your kidneys are damaged, and a higher than normal result can be caused by dehydration or a number of different factors. Furthermore, how much above normal the result was would be considered by the docs in relation to what action they should take. You're booked in for anther test some weeks in the future so it is being checked, but if it was really serious I think the docs would be doing more right now, so probably not worth too much worrying until something definite is actually confirmed.

I have had 2 mri’s previously and after each one my creatine levels went up and the place I went to stated on my record that I have chronic kidney disease which up until these two test were performed my creatine levels were always normal. I didn’t even notice when they handed me my paper that diagnosis was on there. I’ve never had any kidney problems until they gave me the contrast with my mri.

I’m allergic to it. So I don’t get.

My mother’s friend developed kidney problems from it and had several kidney surgeries and transplants. She eventually died as a result.

Knowing what she went through I wish you the best

No.

I have never had a problem with the contrast but I did have 1 neuro, years ago that didn't have mri's done with it unless absolutely necessary because of study that said it can build up in your system. I can't find that study anywhere but I did read something that there is a new contrast that scientists have been working on. Medicine and testing are always changing.

Probably worthwhile for you to read the articles I posted links to on this thread nearly a week ago.

I am allergic to gadolinium. I can have it if I am premeditated, but would rather not have it at all.

It makes me feel like crap also.

I told the tech who did my last MRI and he said that was odd and when he injected the dye he did it slowly and said maybe that would help but I still felt weird afterwards,

I am going to tell my Neurologist no more.

Have them check your kidney function too.

Oh an the highlight to these mri test cost me $12.000.00 for kidney damage. Thanks doc

I will and that sucks .

Chuck Norris sued for his wife getting sick off the dye.

thanks I read that and had forgotten the actors name. I’m going to investigate this I’m so very upset it’s making me sick. Thank you neurologist for making my stress go up along with my m.s. great combo.

I am so sorry,

It seems like they could do something else to check our brains,

It is not like we can do anything to stop this crappy illness.

I have had allergic reactions to all the DMTs they have tried me on.

And I refuse to do any infusions due to the risks.

There are class actions going on right now. You can find my posts and read replies about Gadolinium or let me know if you can't find them - I'll send them to you.

I used to lie to my doctor that I am allergic, but it's on my record now, so they stopped trying.

No problems for me that I am aware of. I haven't read of any evidence of specific problems but I have read that there may be some and that further studies are required on gadolinium effects. I would be interested to read about conclusions of the the studies. So, I continue to take it every-other year during my MRIs.

No conclusions that it is not safe from my review.

If the fact that gadolinium will stay in your brain long after you die doesn't bother you, go for it.

How many have you had so far???

sashaming1 profile image
sashaming1 in reply to Horse714

Over 34 years about 8 that I guess. Maybe because of the changes in Neurologists over the years. Done mostly to identify if there are any more recent lesions to see how my changed DMT is working.
