Barrium Swallow Test Is a Go!

I finally got a call from the radiology dept to schedule the barrium swallow test the speech pathologist and my neurologist wanted. I have to be wearing the hazmat getup. But I also MUST have the results of the COVID 19 test I have to take before I'm even allowed into the building! Here's hoping I'll get my results back in time!

Have done the barrium swallow test several times after throat cancer ♋️. Wasn’t to bad, had to have instructions for two weeks and exercises for swallowing. Did help, but lots of things I can’t eat. Good luck and hope it works out 🤞👍 Ken 🐾🐾

The COVID 19 test is a head scratcher for me. I didn't have to have one for the boobologist visit I had a few weeks ago-- same health system. The barrium test is for the speech pathologist to see how I can choke on a swig of water, and I had mentioned that to my neurologist's video visit in June. After 25 years of MS, I have to admit how ignorant I am on symptoms of it. Like the pee problem, I'd never considered my constant ability to swallow stuff "down the wrong pipe" as being an MS thing until I'd attended talks about MS held by neurologists (one of whom was my own neurologist!) These, among others, were just things I either didn't really think about, or dismissed as something else. And if I so much as mention something, my neurologist takes it seriously, and wants to get to the bottom of it.

Maybe this dr wants you to have the covid test because it has to do with your mouth where the other was not?

I choke on the barium! Blah! That stuff tastes terrible and makes me gag and I don't have a swallowing problem! Good luck!

I had the barium swallow test done February. Wasn't too bad but I did find out that I have dysphasia three. I also choked on water just like you plus other liquids, even my own saliva. Speech therapy for about five weeks to teach me swallowing exercises. etc. I still do the exercises daily, there's a lot of foods I eat if cut up small but a lot of foods I can no longer eat because I can't swallow them. Good luck on your test and please let us know.
