Pool

I am thinking about getting a pool. It is a little expensive. Wandering will it be beneficial for my MS, at least enough to spend the amount of money. Thoughts?

I think it can be wonderful exercise, if you have the fortitude to keep it maintained. My son worked summers cleaning pools, and said after seeing what it took, he said he’d never have one of his own. My sister has an in-ground pool and loves it, but it takes a lot of work and money from her son and herself to keep it going. With typically decent weather in this area, they only swam a handful of times the last few years due to the smoke all summer here.

It might be prudent to see if you can talk to folks who own a pool in your area to get their input as to how much actual time and money you might be obligated to use once your pool is set up and how much swim time you’ll realistically get.

Let us know what you decide.

Swimming is wonderful for people with MS. If you can't afford a pool

you can check the YMCA.

Best Wishes,

A pool is fantastic but an awful lot of maintenance. Are you in a part of the world where you can enjoy this pool year round? lbenmaor 's suggestion of looking into a YMCA nearby might be the way to go. I have looked into getting a mini lap pool. Perhaps that is the way for you to go. :-D

Angelchef80, We put in a self cleaning, salt water pool with travertine cool decking for around $20K in 2009. Our neighbor put the same pool in last year for $30K. I love it and swim laps almost every day. That said, I really need to qualify my answer. I think it depends on where you live how much good you will get out of it vs the cost. A pool is a lot of work and an ongoing expense. My husband says that if we had to do it again, he would put in one of those swim against the water small pools.

Have you looked into swim spas at all?

Do you love to swim and would you swim at least 4-5 days a week? And do you live where the weather would allow you to do that? All of the people I know hire a pool service. It takes a lot of time to do it yourself. 😀❤️😎🌺

I agree, from someone who loves to swim, Don't get the pool! No matter how difficult to get to someone else's (pubic....) do it. Every pool owner I ever knew, wound up dreading their pool. The effort, expense...
