Baton Down The Hatches East Coast....Here it Comes! 🌬🌨

If you live in the eastern U.S. or on the east coast get ready for the blizzard of January 2019 it's on its way! After all the Midwest had to share the fun they just got done having with us so it's our turn! All the family members living in the path of this gruesome winter storm please be careful. Remember to take extra precautions since the sounds like it's a storm that is not safe to mess with or underestimate! It has gone from 58 degrees here at about 4 p.m. to about 32 now at 10 and it's starting to freeze and turn the rain over to snow. Multiply that with winds are gusting from 40 to 45 miles per hour and heavy snow for the next few hours and we will have whiteout conditions locally. They're also calling for something we've never heard here before and that is a flash freeze. The rain we've had all day today is expected to freeze to anything it touches and black ice will be underneath all the new fallen snow so that sets us up for a really bad combination. Share your horror stories with the room and we'll keep it running through tomorrow and see who's got bragging rights to the storm of January 2019! Of course that's something I'm happy to share with someone else and I imagine most of you are also! Take care and stay warm and dry. Fancy

Fancy. What state do you live in? That you've never heard of a flash freeze? I live in Pa and I remember having them since I was young. I'm 42. So just over 30 years. Not picking on you. Just surprised that you've never heard of it.

dailygrump40, I live in Central Kentucky and I guess we're just far enough South that we don't get quite as much of the nor'easters and bad weather that you must get. We often have wild temperature swings but they usually occur within the course of a day or 2 never in the same day and literally a six-hour time frame. Anyway not taking any insult to it I'm just telling you it's very unusual for us and I had never heard the term before or if it was used once in a while I just missed it. The old Noggin isn't what it used to be if you get my drift! Not talking about a snowdrift either! LOL! Hope you stay safe and dry. Take care. Fancy.

I caught your drift and our snow can't drift right now cause its froze solid. Kentucky definitely has different weather conditions then we do. I did spend about half an hour running my tractor with a snowblower this morning. It was definitely chilly outside. I had gloves on and my hands got a lot colder then I realized. Gonna have to get a better pair of gloves. Fancy, you stay safe and warm. I gonna try to do the same.

Oh it’s snowing on the Northshore of

Massachusetts it’s 11pm I’m about 15 minutes south from New Hampshire I just heard the weather it’s going to change to rain about 10a.m. Sunday I wish it would stay snow. But it is going to pour and latter on Sunday it is going to get very cold. Canada is deciding to share.

Then later that night we are going to have a flash freeze. That’s when everything turns to ice.

Sounds like fun NOT

Everyone one stay safe.

My husband is working to night not sure when he will be back. He takes down any and all trees that come down on the power lines.

I do have a very good neighbor who will look out for me.

ssdw, stay safe, stay smart, and stay inside while your husband is gone. A simple slip on the ice and it could be serious trouble as cold as a temperatures are if you can't get up immediately. Thinking about you and hoping you could stay safe, warm, and dry. Fancy.

Thank you Jazzy, the same back to you! We're lucky and blessed because we still have electricity. The storm was not as bad as it could have been here . We only have a couple inches of snow on the ground and ice underneath it . Still time to stay inside however today because the temperatures have slung too ridiculously low readings. Fancy.

I know about freezing rain, snow storms, and the works that come with winters

One year the snow storm completely shut down a major road in Chicago ( lake shore drive )people were stuck on the road for hours. Their cars were towed by the city when they were able to clear a way for the cars to be moved, once the cars were moved the owners had a hard time finding their cars , the city just towed them to random lots because there was so many.

That storm actually shut the city down and Chicago never shuts down when it snows it just another snow day

rjoneslaw, it's fancy back at you! Unfortunately here in Central kentucky because we don't get a lot of the severe weather that the Northern Tier does when we get bad weather it tends to shut the area down. Our last big snowfall was about four years ago where we got about 20 -22 inches of snow on the ground and the temperatures for cold enough that it's take put for entire week. It literally shut the small town I live in down. Even the Bank closed for about 3 days and didn't make their employees come in. Schools were shut down and even colleges called off classes which happens very rarely around here especially for an entire week! We were out of town and miss the fun as we vacationed in warm and sunny Mexico! I wish I were out of town right now to miss this extreme cold but I'm blessed to have a husband and sons who will help do things outside so I never leave the house when it's like this. Take care and stay warm and dry! Fancy.

It snowed here in MI until about 3pm yesterday. I think we got about 6" in Jackson. Before the snow started it was snow and freezing rain...you could hear it coming down. Luckily we have a snowblower this year and my brother in law used it the morning to get all the heavy stuff out of the way before taking my cousin to her karate conference. About 2pm I shoveled another 3" of snow. As long as you take your time it wasn't too bad at that time. By evening the temps were dropping and we had a weather advisory for temps dropping to -20 because of the windchill! Today, it's -3 with the windchill. Brrr, I'll be staying in the house.

We got off pretty lucky here in Kentucky at least the central portion that is. The storm wasn't as bad as predicted. We got probably two maybe three inches of snow and there was some icing underneath it but there was enough Sun out yesterday to open up most of the roads and make driving okay. It got extremely cold last night single digits with wind chill below zero but it's January so what should we expect! There were tons of gray answers and thanks everybody for replying and sharing your weather worries or lack thereof! It's always fun and great to hear what's going on in different parts of the country. Be careful out there and remember our limitations before you go out in the freezing temperatures and get into trouble with a slip and fall. It wouldn't take long to get into serious trouble when the temperatures are in the single digits or below! Take care until we speak again and remember together we are stronger! Fancy.
