Low white blood count

My neuro called me directly. My white blood count is low. I had my blood drawn Wednesday and got the call EARLY Thursday morning. I pointed out I would be there next Wednesday and we could talk about it then. All I could think was, "What now?"

I’m sorry. I wish you had better news, but I’m in high hopes that it doesn’t mean much. Please keep us posted.

Sorry to hear 😕. That’s why I had to go off of Tysabri during Cancer treatment 🤨. As it has turned out I am doing great on Aubagio 😉. Hope it works out for you 🙏🙏👍🎃🐾 Ken

I'm on Aubagio now. Tecfidera is the one that made mine drop like a stone. Hopefully this is no big deal...

I have seen my white cell numbers gradually drop with Tecfidera and I will be seeing my neuro in a couple of weeks. He said if numbers keep dropping I may have to switch. I have been thinking Aubagio may be next for me if I have to switch. Keep us updated mrsmike9

Mine is low too. I'm on tecfidera and the hemotologist said that for now I didn't need to worry about it. Try not to let your imagination get to carried away until you talk to the doctors.

But thank you for reminding me that I still need to get blood drawn to recheck my count and make sure that the tecfidera isn't causing any liver problems. I had completely forgotten since talking to the neurologist on Tuesday. I'll do it tomorrow...If I remember.

You have a bacterial infection so your blood count will be low. I am sure once they give you the right antibiotics it will go back up. Look at how long you have had that infection. Don’t worry, if it was urgent they would have had you in right away. Enjoy your weekend. Blessings Jimeka 🤗 💐

Actually it's not a bacterial infection. It's another autoimmune disease...

No biggie!

Antibiotics will help bacterial infections but if you have low white blood cells you need to have injections to increase your white blood cells as I do as I have neutropenia

Same thing happened to me while on Tecfidera. The doctor gave it a few weeks to come back up on its own, but took me off when it stayed very low. He told me to stay away from crowds for six weeks ( it was flu season) and put me on Aubagio.

That's my story and I'm on Aubagio now!

Hi-certain MS treatments like Tysabri, OCrevus, Lemtrada and stated above by others, even Tecfidera will lower white blood cell count or certain immune cells

(T cells or B cells). Reason: To prevent more of the “confused immune cells” from attacking nerve cells. Usually, when you have an infection or maybe injury in the body, white blood cell count will be high to fight it not low, but again, wait to see what your doctor tells you next week. Which treatment are you taking? Hope all goes well.

I'm on Aubagio and I don't want to change as it's the only thing I've taken that didn't have major bad reactions.

Yes, makes total sense! Best wishes on your doc visit.

I'm sorry for that news. I hope everything goes smoothly. If it was like a major emergency I think your Neuro would have you in his/her office immediately (like NOW). 😊❤🌷

It’s common for that to happen with many MS drugs. Have had it happen many times Stay positive

When mine went too low on gilenya, I was able to get them up with green tea and protein. Meat worked better than protein powder. I read about these remedies on the Mayo clinic website.

I had low blood count with tecfidera my doc took me off so it would go up and also had to keep an eye on the jcv levels

I have been through this for years dear. I'm now on my twelfth different treatment since 2006. Started on Copaxone and have been on everything lol. I was on Tecfidera almost three years ago and I am also highly JCV positive and within months my lymphocytes dropped from 1700 to 2000 way down under 400. My neurologist sent me to hematology and down to University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Pulled me off immediately after the following week a woman over in England died suddenly because her lymphocytes were low like mine and she was very JCV positive as well. I still have not rebounded all this time later as my lymphocytes are barely 700-800 on a good day. I feel for you and good luck with your situation.

Doesn't a low white count mean your body is fighting an infection some where?
