Need recommendation’s for a scooter

I need recommendations about what to look for when buying a scotter. Three or four wheeler? Light weight if possible as I’m a widow now and have to handle getting it in and out of my Honda CRV. I was diagnosed back in 1977. I was 36. I’m now 77.

Hi bhappy41b I so love your name! 😊 I'm not using a scooter right now so I really can't help you with that. But I'm sure others can. And will here shortly!😊 I just wanted to say hi! 🤗💕

I’m sure you’ll get better responses, but I’ve read that 4-wheeled scooters may be more stable for mainly outdoor and longer distance use. If you want something mainly for shopping indoors, a three-wheeled version may be lighter and easier to transport.

I’ll be watching the responses, too.

I have a 4 wheel scooter which I’m thankful for because I probably would have flipped a 3 wheeler a few times. Mine is an Invacare Colibri which nice because it is easy to assemble/disassemble and fits easily in the back of our station wagon. It’s not street legal though. You have to stick to the sidewalks.

Thank you for your reply. Hen you say it isn’t street legal; explain please.

Some scooters have all the lights you need to drive on the street like break lights, turn signals etc. Mine just has reflectors like a bicycle.

I have a GoGo by Pride with 4 wheels. It brakes down into four parts including the battery. The heaviest is about 35 lbs. it does fit nicely in the back of our SUV. My husband gets it down from the SUV and puts it away. We plan to get the pad and other equipment so I can do it myself soon. I hope this info helps.

Sounds great. Is it too heavy for you to break down a nd put in your SUV? What other things do you want to buy for it? Does a person need s second battery ?

Thanks in advance.

I have balance issues. The mechanism that he wants to have installed it would all stay together. I would drive it on a small platform I then get off the Gogo and then it would be lifted back into the SUV and vice a versa all with a touch of a button. They have GoGos in 3 or 4 wheels. We bought because of its light weight and size. It did fit nicely all taken apart in our 2014 Honda CRV. We traded that for a Chevy Equinox last week.

Hi I have a scooter but rearly use it out side I know it can be broken down but I would never be able to do on my own. It has 4 wheels when I got it my insurance company paid for the whole thing. So that was the main reason I got it I was told if I do use it to always bring the charger with me because you don’t want to be stranded with out being able to change it.

But I do say get the four wheels.

Thank you for your reply. I want the scooter so I can travel from my apartment to the clubhouse in order to takenpart in some activities. That involves crossing the street and parking lot. Also I’d like to go to some other places like the zoo but can’t cuz my legs won’t cooperate!!!

Blessings,

Bobbi I want to say you should have some kind of flag so that people will see you and so you won’t get hit by a car. Have a fun time just don’t forget your charger

Oh by the way practice with it I almost took out a piece of furniture oh I almost took out my 21 year old son when he was trying to help me. That would not have been a good thing.

Thanks Sandra! I love the idea of a flag. I know when I go to Costco I cleats use their scooters that have flags on them. I’d prefer a red/white/blue flag.

There is a scooter store not far from my place. I hope to get there tomorrow to check some scooters out.

Thanks fir taking time to help me.

Blessings

I really suggest that you go see your mobility specialist. They have been so helpful for me when it comes to these things. They will assess your needs and give you choices. Also, you’ll be able to try some out. IMHO, I would only be looking at four wheeled units. We can’t afford to tip over any more.

Good luck and post a picture of you and your new ride!
