Symptoms?

Good morning all! So I'm just curious about some possible symptoms and maybe different descriptions make these seem like something different.....?

The first one is a muscle knot, Charlie horse type of thing, always in the same spot on my right thigh. It doesn't cramp like your foot gets cramps but it feels either like its about to or like someone just punched me in that spot.....for days at a time. And a spot on my right calf is doing the same. It's not a full blown cramp but I feel like it will be any second now...excepts it's been hours. Are those symptoms what is call 'Spasticity'?

The second one is odd and I've had it on and off for many years. There is no pain involved and no noticeable tightening feeling really. I will have days where I feel like I'm not breathing deep enough or getting enough O2...like I can't take a deep breath. So I have to force myself to do it....Is this specific to just me or is a super mild version of the MS Hug? Very curious.....

Hi cassielynn71 im not sure about the crampy feeling, in you leg. I do get them sometimes if I try to push myself to much. But it doesn' last to long.

As far as your breathing goes, have you mentioned this to your Neuro? Or your PCP? You should! Just to be sure of what it is! 💕

Did you do the MS walk? ☺

J🌠

Jesmcd2 No I haven't mentioned it. It's been happening for years and I'm short of breath or "suffering" because of it. It's more annoying than anything. But I will bring it up.

And yes I did do the walk! One of our local news anchors kinda talked me into it. Did I post about the walk already? Lord only knows! Anyway, I did it. Next year I will be more prepared and will do fundraising.

I just reread what I wrote...I meant to say I'm NOT short of breath or "suffering" because of it. I just feel like my lungs aren't filling all the way and so I semi-sub consciously will take an extra deep breath. Sometimes it takes a few tries to "satisfy" the feeling and to breath easy again. But no, I'm not sitting here gasping for air or anything, lolol! :)

I totally understand that. You described it perfect. I have this had this for years too and my dr has always said I need to lose weight. I am only 20 pounds overweight so he Is just using excuses.

Re my breathing, my docs tell me to gain some weight and do less exercise.

Docs don't like it when symptoms don't fit neatly in the packages of diseases they were yip ally deal with. 😬

Well, I am 70 lbs over my comfort zone, lol, but this is NOT weight related because it happened years before I packed on the pounds. Yes, I believe your doc is grasping at straws. :(

Good for you, doing the walk. I signed up for one this Saturday and could barely make it around the block last night. Not sure if I will make it on Saturday. Crazy week, and my best friend lost her 96 yr old dad. Services Saturday, too.

I'm sorry about your friend's Dad. And as far as the walk, I barely made half of it. But I still felt good about it! And the fact that I got out of the house, went to something I've never been to before, and was in a very large mass of people, are huge accomplishments in themselves! Granted, I had someone go with me :) so I didn't do it alone. That wouldn't have happened if I didn't! :)

cassielynn71 agree with Jes, u should still tell ur docs about this...despite my frustrations with the work up, difficulty breathing should still be ruled out for serious stuff.

erash Yes, I've had pulmonary tests over the years for both symptoms and for work and despite my previous years of smoking, my getting winded super easily and this deep breathing thing, I have fabulous lungs somehow. Baffling. I recently had a stress test also and that went great too, despite gasping for air! Crazy tests, lol.

The leg situation sounds like spasticity, which i have with a variety of symptoms. I take Baclofen for that since last August, with gradual increases as those symptoms increases. About the MS hug, I'm just learning and forgot to ask my doc at visit yesterday. I have what feels like tightness on my right side ribs.

Yah, I have the Baclofen also and take it as needed but I never do. I can't possibly be more tired than I already am at work or I might as well stay home. And as long as I'm not in more than normal pain I don't think about taking it at bedtime. I'm so bad about taking meds until its almost too late! Maybe I should start taking it every night w/ my night time pills and maybe it'll carry over enough to ease the pain during the day....? It's worth a shot I guess!

I very rarely take Baclofen during the day because I don’t want to slow down. But I noticed that taking it at bedtime helps me sleep better and seems to delay spasms the next day.

I hope you find some relief.

Awesome! I am giving it a shot then. Won't hurt, right? :)

cassielynn71 i have had the exact same breathing symptoms

I've seen pulmonologist, cardiology, neurology and my PCP. Ct scans pulmonary function tests, stress tests, echocardiogram S are normal. Inhalers, steroids, reflux meds no real help.

I recently had a SHAPE test, cardiopulmonary test. It measures both heart and breathing while you step up down for 2 min. That identified pulmonary restriction. The pulmo says it's not coming from inside the lungs due to the other tests being normal.

My MS PT and I believe it's spasticity in the chest wall. I'm working on breathing exercise and an intense stretching program for my whole body.

Meanwhile, the pulmo wants more tests.

P.s. I'm have that same feeling you get in your thigh but it's in my thumb (bizarre) maybe that's all spasticity too.

My brother says I'm just a big spaz 😜

Lolol, It took me a sec, but I got the joke...spaz...Lololol. I swear I'm sooooo slow! Anyway, thank you!!! It's nice sometimes just to have confirmation or validation that your abnormalities are actually normal (now there's an oxymoron for ya!)

And on a happy note, TGIF!!!!! I get so excited about being able to sleep in :)
