MMach hi and welcome. I find that a walker with wheels, either 3 or 4 wheels has really helped me. I can walk at a better pace and I feel more confident. Blessings Jimeka πŸ¦‹

Thanks jimeka for your response, I used a walker but without wheels. I will try once with wheels.

When a cane is hard I use a walker with wheels. I can walk a bit faster and longer with it. I continue to exercise and try every morning to not use any supports. Good luck to you!

Hello MMach and welcome to this awesome chat room from Fancy1959. You have found a safe place to come and ask questions, voice concerns, or simply speak to others who understand what you're going through. This chat room is full of some of the most caring, kind, and compassionate people I have ever met. I too have difficulties walking so I'm experienced and I can simply pass on what has works for me but make sure you speak to your neurologist. I would highly recommend you speak to him or her about doing some physical therapy on your balance and walking and to strengthen your legs. The results I see from physical therapy are simply amazing and help tremendously. I would suggest you stop using cane as they are not as safe and just not as balanced as a walker. I use a rollator walker around the house. It's a larger walker with four wheels and is easy to maneuver but is a bit heavy to haul around for me. It might not be for you but something you would just have to check out. I have a small aluminum walker with wheels on the front that I keep in the car to use when I'm out and about. You can purchase all kind of fun accessories for the walkers as in baskets for the front or trays that's fit over the handles that make you able to go out and eat lunch or do other things and be more self-sufficient.

When I have to cover large distances I take my electric scooter and I love being able to keep up with everyone or be in the front of everyone for a change instead of pulling up the rear. I was fortunate enough to find a very lightly used scooter and I got a great deal on a higher end scooter that is an amazing machine. I hope these ideas helped. If you need additional information or if what you needed was not found in this post or in other post you receive as the rest of the chat room read your post and respond please just reply back to us. Remember that together we are stronger! Take care and know you are not alone. I too now have been diagnosed for about 20 plus years. We are all in this together. I look forward to talking to you in the near future.

Thanks Fancy1959 for your reply. I tried a walker without wheels. But it was hard to walk for a long time with it. Somebody suggested me to try once with wheels but I thought that it was not easy to walk with it. DonΒ΄t you have problems when you want to stop? Does the walker has a hand brake? As I work as a consultant in factories I have to be walking around for at least an hour and I must be able to stop at any moment close to a machine and stay there observing.

I did physical therapy but it did not help me. I am not sure if the results were because the physical therapy is not good in my case or because the persons that do it here in Uruguay do not have enough experience. Perhaps one day I found someone to do it on line.

Thanks for your suggestions and for your support . It is the first time that I get in touch with people in my condition and it has made me feel better!! I apologize for my English

Hello lois52 Thanks for your reply. I have not used a brace for my right leg. I am not sure how it should be. Sorry but I do not know what it is an afo for foot drop. If it helps you it may be good for me. I can not walk because of foot drop. Thanks again and I apologize for my English

@mmach

I was going to post this today,

I found out about a walker designed for people with neurological conditions. It's called U-Step 2 walking stabilizer and it folds flat. I will do a post to show it

Welcome MMach, I have learned so much from this chat room. Everyone is so helpful and compassionate. I am anxious to see the U-Step 2 walker. Ps. Your English is good, keep it up πŸ˜€β€οΈ

I am going to start using a walker with wheels so I will try U-Step2. In Uruguay (the country where I live) you can not buy. So it is going to take some time to get it. First I will have to do paperwork to avoid paying taxes. Here are high.

Thanks lois52. I saw the AFO online. I am going to ask my doctor about using it. He has never suggested me to use one.

Welcome to the group MMach ! Do talk with your doctor about the AFO, if you have foot drop. It can really help.

Your English is fine!
