I have contamination OCD and OCD around responsibility to others. After I did some research I figured I had contamination OCD but I was also very concerned I might just be a bad person and was making everything up/misleading everyone. I likely had these thoughts due to being gaslighted in the past in a romantic relationship in regards to some mental health issues as well as other things. I was already on medication for anxiety, ocd, and depression but didn't feel like I had an official diagnosis despite a doctor refering to my issues as OCD. Because of my concern about being a bad person and misleading people I was considering harming myself, so I had to go the hospital. I now have been told by a psychiatrist that I 100% have OCD and I still sometimes question things but hearing that coming from a psychiatrist has helped me accept it most of the time and work towards recovery. I would suggest that you see if they are willing to see a professional for a diagnosis to know whether or not they have ocd for sure and go from there. It might take a long time to see a professional depending on where you live though. Also what makes you say they have contamination OCD?

I have sought counseling as a parent of a child with an ocd counselor and his behavior is spot on. Sometimes he’ll admit to having it and sometimes he’s in denial. Was looking for reading material, videos etc so that I can direct him to at least some type of self help until he can see his way to a counselor.

Is he willing to try self help books or videos?
