Hi All

My husband has has hiccups for the past 5 days, initially lasting pretty much all day and also throughout the night.

I have tried every remedy I can think off and it is getting to the point where it is pretty exhausting for him.

Has anyone else suffered this way and if so can you share how you eased the problrm please.

Hello,You must be worn out, both of you.

Not heard of this but why don't you contact the MSA Trust, they're very helpful and may have come across it before.

Hope you get it sorted.

A few years ago my husband did like you went on for a week went to doctors and he did medicate but I can’t remember what he prescribed as you say it is so tiring for them he still does get bouts of it but only last a while, I do hope you find a remedy for him soon.

Thank you. I have asked the GP and they have said to let it run its course at the moment. I will get back to them again and hope that they can suggest a medication as you say. Take care,

my husband had unending hiccups while in the hospital. He was so bruised in his torso from the constant pounding. I also don’t remember the name of the drug, but drs did prescribe him a medication that took it down a few notches. Ask a pharmacist the name in order to tell the drs what you want.

Hi, my husband was prescribed Domerid 10mg tablets for intractable hiccups. Definitely a great help with hiccups. Think over the counter the tablet is also known as Motilium. Hope this helps

Hi Fatwallet, my husband (MSA sufferer), has also suffered from horrendous bouts of hiccups lasting hours and days and nights. In the end Dr prescribed him peppermint water, which didn't do a lot, then domperidone. This is an anti sickness drug primarily I think. My husband also has to drink 2 litres of water a day as he's catheterised. His specialist suggested drinking a bit less water a day. Anyway he took the domperidone (occasionally) and cut down on the water a bit. Not sure if either of these were what did the trick, but hiccups did subside. He does still get them from time to time, but thankfully not had such a bad bout recently. He thinks eating apples makes him more likely to get hiccups too. Hope you find a cure! All the best. Rosie

Thank you so much Rosie, my husband Phil is also MSA sufferer, catheterised and has a Rig fitted. I did wonder if I was giving him too much water, always conscious of bloating him. Its a bloomin guessing game this disease. Thank you so much, gives me something to try. At the moment they are not too bad so I am hoping we have turned a corner!! 🤞🤞

I guess it has to do with digestive issues? If I keep drinking water they eventually go away with not too much effort…or water. The air can’t come back up while drinking.
