Has anyone had doors widened to accommodate a wheelchair? If so, is an838mm door satisfactory? Not enough room for a 926mm

Hi, when building the annexe for my dad, who was having to use a wheelchair, we used the dimension recommendations from the disabled living foundation website. It worked really well.

Thank you. I will have a look. Our OT says it should be OK unless we need a huge powered wheelchair but I am a little worried and wondered how other people manage.

Yes we had our doorways widened last year when we moved into a bungalow. If you look on Howdens website they supply wider doors for wheelchair access as probably do other places

Hello Annie,

We moved to a bungalow last year and my wife suddenly stopped walking so we use a wheelchair inside to go between the rooms.

Not widened any doors for our wheelchair (not self propelled) and it works ok.

If you need anymore info let me know.

The doorway widened by our local social services is 837 and we managed not to scratch the doorframe much, except if I was rushing and thinking about something else whilst pushing the wheelchair through the door!Diane
