I was diagnosed 3 years ago with PV.
I wasn't at all happy with the rather cursory treatment I received from the haematologist and so made enquiries to find a haematologist who specialised in MPD's.
In the end I saw a specialist privately ( about £120.00 but what price health and peace of mind?) and got an hour of his time. Well worth every penny - he explained the disease, the treatments, self help etc etc. I'm still with the original NHS haematologist ( no choice here unless I want a 3 hour round trip every 4 to 5 weeks) but we get along fine and I trust him - he has the measure of my constantly questioning attitude - he doesn't like it, but knows he has no choice! I live in Billericay Essex and attend Basildon hospital Consultant Dr Mane, she is very good and thorough. Before I was in Bury st Edmunds West Suffolk Hospital and consultant was Dr Beatty, she was so lovely that I still miss her. You are between these two hospitals, both around 45 minutes to an hour. My husband treated at Ipswich Hospital and they are very good. They also refer to Addenbrookes when they need to.
