No bone marrow biopsy, started on HU immediately. Would I be considered too old to start an interferon drug?

You are not too old to be considered for an IFN to treat ET. I am also on an IFN (Besremi) to treat PV and also age 69. The IFNs are considered a preferred (first line) treatment for ET and PV. Besremi only has a FDA indication for PV and it is very expensive. It ia difficult to access off label to treat ET. HU and PEG are also off-label for ET. HU cost = $25/month. PEG cost = $4,200/month. Not surprisingly, it is easier to get HU approved; however, you almost certainly can access PEG if you prefer it. It just may take more work.
I started at 74, two years ago, and I was told that I wasn’t too old to start Pegasys
I wouldnt think so. Just might be harder to get as you are in the US and it will need to be approved. Thankful to be in the UK and have a good consultant.
