I have ET and am on Hu and aspirin. Hu 4 days x 1000 and 3 x 500. I’ve noticed what seems to be unexplained bruises appearing. Is this a common side effect?

Increased bruising s a potential side effect of aspirin. It can also result when platelet levels are higher. I used to experience increased bleeding/bruising while on aspirin and my PLTs were near 800 or above. It is no longer an issue since my PLT do not rise that high on Besremi.

I have high platelets which in themselves haven’t caused above normal bruising in my own experience. However when I followed the “experts” advice of daily aspirin then I got a lot of bruising which concerned me a lot. I now take ½ regular aspirin once every 3 days or so . If I get a knock, I apply arnica which I find seems to help quite a bit.

I’d say that bruising is something I’ve had to get used to. I’m got PV, on Hu 5x/wk at 500mg. This month I’m seeing a MPN specialist so I’m anxious to see what they make of the bruising (nausea, itching, fatigue & headaches) then.

Thanks for your post, I understand we can experience some bruising marks, However my lovely team always ask me to report any bruising, so they can decide whether you should have an updates blood test to ensure platelet levels ok. Hope this helps.
