Interferon reaction

Hi all,I've recently joined the group and already have found it a great source of information & reassuring messages.

I started interferon back in August and it's going okay. I am having a reaction at the injection site. My skin is rash looking, bright red and dry. Is there anything that works? The nurses have suggested Evening Primrose oil but so far it's not making a difference- I've only been using it for two week.

I apologise if someone has already asked this question.

Thanks

I get the same red, dry, itchy patch but I find Curel itch defense lotion fixes that right up. 👌🏽

I have been on Pegasus for a few months now and my arms started to break out in hives and can not get them to go away. My doctor says it’s not the injections but my research says otherwise. Any recommendations?

I've no idea about hives but maybe try antihistamines. Talk to your doctor again about it - unfortunately I have found I have to be quite insistent to be heard & taken seriously.

To MDI55:

Are the hives widespread distant from the injection site? Such a systemic reaction could be worth discussing with a rheumatologist.

Hives are actually in a most serious adverse category for Besremi:

Get medical help right away if you get any of the following symptoms... skin rash or hives"

PEG has a similar warning. (they share the same serious risks)

No doubt it's a matter of degree but the rheum is a good 1st step if you are concerned.

What are you using to wipe the skin before injecting? I was using alcohol wipes but found they left skin itchy and red. I swapped to baby wipes and find them much better. I also try to ensure no excess drops from syringe get on skin. It can happen if you're injecting less than is in the vial and you've to remove some to get the correct dose. Hope this helps. All very best, Ann

Thanks for replying Ann. I'm using non alcoholic wipes but think they might be contributing - the joys of sensitive skin. I'll try the baby wipes this week. 😊
