Spleen pain?

I haven’t really had much spleen pain, just an uncomfortable feeling or pressure, however over the last week or so I have felt more pressure plus sharp twinges round my left side when moving, this spreads right down towards my hip from under my ribs, I’m not sure if spleen pain can spread that far or if I’ve pulled a muscle!

Has anyone else had this?

I’ve got a hospital appointment on Thursday so will ask the doctor, the same one who has been going to arrange a scan on my spleen for about 12 months!

My wife, has Myelofibrosis, and didn't know her spleen was six times the normal size until it ruptured after a fall out running, and ended up having it removed. She never had any discomfort or pain from her spleen! I ruptured my spleen a year ago and it was scanned, with a diagnosis grade 4 / 5 injury. It has been painful ever since but I had a phone call from my GP yesterday to say that the radiologist reckons I didn't warrant a scan of any type. Even though the only scan was done within hours of my cycling fall along with the scan that revealed I had fractured my skull and had a large bleed within my brain. But I knew nothing as I never regained consciousness for 4 days. Doctors regard spleens with distain methinks.

Thank you. Sounds like you’re lucky to be in one piece! Not doing a scan seems to be the norm these days. My husband had a kidney stone last August, he was asked to go in last Monday at 7:15 am to have it removed, he was gowned up and about to have the anaesthetic when the doctor asked if he’d had a scan recently, he said no despite being told (last year) he’d have one the week before the op. Better check where it is then says the doctor. After the scan they told him to go home, it had gone, if the scan had been done the previous week an operation slot wouldn’t have been wasted. Unfortunately he wasn’t the only one, as he was waiting for me to pick him up 2 more men came out with the same story, no scans and no stones! Three operation slots wasted!

Seems to me that such is the state of medical care in 2024. Less is more (for the gov). Just my opinion. Best to you always
