I just got my latest set of results from my recent blood check up and was told that I know have low folate levels and as such my specialist has prescribed me with Folic Acid to take daily for the next 8 weeks until my next set of bloods.
This one is a surprise to me as haven’t read anything online about it being a potential side effect of ET or the medication (I take 16 x 500mg hydroxy tablets a week and one 75mg aspirin daily).
My last two sets of results have came back with white blood count at 3.8 and 3.7 respectively, and apparently this is low too.
Just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar re folates from either ET or the hydroxy and whether it is anything to be concerned about?
Thanks

I am not aware of Vit B/Folate deficiency being related to ET or HU. However, we can certainly experience nutritional deficiencies that co-occur with MPNs. I experience magnesium, Vit D, and Vit B/folate deficiencies. In my case, this related to a co-occuring conditions that causes Vit D deficiency (NF1) and the Nexium I take for GERD interfering with nutrition absorption.
I am glad to hear that the deficiency was detected. There can be serious symptoms associated with Vit B deficiencies, including neurological impact.
so many people are folate deficient, because many foods have folic acid add to them, and this blocks the uptake of folate. For example, breads, cereals, and other fortified foods should be avoided. It’s really awful for the children. 😑
Folate deficiency is a very serious problem. I’m so glad they found this so you can do something about it. 😃
please do not take Folic acid! It is not a natural substance. It docks onto the folate receptors on our cells, and blocks them from getting folate. It doesn’t really work. Folate on the other hand, in natural form, works beautifully for our body. You can also check the folate rich foods in Internet and see which ones are in your diet and increase them.
It is really good to invest in very good natural supplements!
