I also get itching on Pegasys/Besremi. It responds very well to antihistamines like Claritin and Benadryl. I have also used Eucrisa for small pop-up rashes.
Atarax/hydroxyzine is good for PV itching. It does more for me than other antihistamines. I also did light therapy for several years, before I got on Jakafi, which really helps the itching.
My haematologist suggested I try Beta Alinine (amino acid) 1/2 teaspoon in water before showering. It works amazingly. Many others swear by it too. Completely tasteless by the way. I find the hot weather definitely makes a difference and increases the likelihood of the itching. T his stuff (BA) is very inexpensive and available in pharmacies here in Australia. Good luck with it. I understand what an awful side effect the itching can be.
I also suffer from itching on the small of my back and under my breastbone. I have tried rubbing in almond oil ( available from the chemist) and that has helped. However, on holiday in Northumberland last week the cosy Inn where I stayed had moisturiser, body wash, shampoo and conditioner that contained sea kelp. I used all of it all week, especially the moisturiser and itching stopped! I can’t warrant that the abatement was due to sea kelp but am going to purchase the product and see if it affords the same level of relief when I’m home.
Hiya my husband has myleofibrosis and is suffering from itching. We live in Northumberland and I’m interested in the sea kelp product. Could you please tell me the brand name so I can also order it. Thank you xx
Hello Hopert! The sea kelp products are a bodycare range produced by The Scottish Fine Soaps Company. Moisturiser, hand wash , shampoo, conditioner etc. They are clearly labelled sea kelp. I’ve seen the products on Amazon. Every person is different so what helped me may not help your hubbie! By the way, it was during a few days away staying at an inn in Beal that I came across them.
Peg can make itch worse for some , that can be temporary and can for some go away at higher doses. UVB or sun can help itch, it does for me, I hear good things about beta alinine but haven’t tried it, antihistamines etc can work for some. Ruxolitinib also works.
I sympathise, the itching is so much more; burning, tingling, pricking. I’ve tried many different antihistamines & currently taking Fexofenadine 360mg daily which is proving to ease it, tho’ continues to be problematic in the night. Nivea do a lotion for extra dry skin, which I find very soothing, along with keeping well hydrated.
