I just tried this out. Very interesting. Gives readings a little low if you catch glare (curl nails inward a little), but generally pretty accurate.

Now all we need is one for platelets!

I had never heard of this. I see there is an older test strip version also, paid by the strip

Seems useful, including context of HCT. I found there is a ~ ratio of 3 HCT/HBG. But depends on age etc. So I checked my CBC's and found surprisingly consistent 2.80-2.88. Maybe each of us has a ratio.

It means this device can give an estimate of HCT also if we check our individual ratios from real CBCs. Also maybe test it the same time we get a blood draw to calibrate it.

I can't get a clear answer on the cost of the mobile app.

It is free to download the app. I downloaded and used it today. You get 5 free tests per day.

That's a good deal. Who would need more than 5 per day? But maybe they will tighten it up for later downloads. Probably good idea to be an early adopter as you were since their web site says they will be "charging a subscription"

I just tried it. It gave ~12 HBG vs 15.4 in my Nov 2 CBC test. Not very accurate. I will try another day with diffuse daylight.

Make sure you slightly curl in your fingers. Any glare from lighting or the camera gives a low result. Once I did this, my values were spot-on (my Hb usually falls between 15-16).
