Depression and MPN ET

Hi everyone, it's me again.. I am depressed right now because i really want to leave my current job due to toxic people and they create stories about my Work From Home set up. Can anyone share or suggest their career while fighting with MPN ET? Given that it is also pandemic.

I often feel tired , I feel like someone beat me up and really don't have concentration.

Thank you! Godbless! And Take Care.

There is an old saying "Don't cast pearls before swine." I would suggest not vesting your sense of worth in the opinions of co-workers who simply do not or will not understand what it means to live with a MPN. The negative chatter can be disheartening, but only if you care about the opinions of the ignorant and insensitive.

You certainly can look to a career change if that is what you wish. Not sure what your current career track is, but there are options even in the midst of the pandemic. Many employers are seeking people. My son was recently hired into an IT position that is full-time work from home earning a 6-figure salary. I choose to work part-time post-retirement as a behavioral health accreditation consultant. My work usually is 90% from home. With COVID that is 100%.

It does sound like it is time to consult with your care team about your current treatment plan. There may be options to better deal with the fatigue and other issues you are experiencing. I do not recall whether you have a MPN Specialist on your care team, but if not that is very important to ensuring an optimal plan. mpnforum.com/list-hem./

Whilst figuring out a better plan, do not lose hope. Things will get better when you find the right way to make it happen.

What is your skill set? Try listing everything that you can do and look it over to see if there is something there that you can work with. Sometimes you just need to develop a thick skin.

When I was in middle school I was the elected "pick on her person" for much of the school. At some point I started to believe that the leaders must be absolutely miserable and insecure to need to attack someone who was quite willing to leave them alone. And it was much easier to ignore the attacks after that.

It’s hard to cope with a toxic work environment, have you spoken to your manager/person above about this? People talking about how you work negatively could be seen as bullying, especially when you have a chronic health condition, and should be challenged by whoever is in charge. But it could also be good to find work that doesn’t impact on you in this way. I think being happy at work and with the work you do is really important for overall health and well-being, and especially for us MPNers.

I am also contemplating work and coping with fatigue due to ET and Hydroxy. Trying to list my skills as already suggested, and looking at jobs to see what is out there that I may be able to manage and enjoy, and may not have considered before.

Try not to think too much about what colleagues say, it’s not relevant if you know you are doing your job, and will bring you down. Some people just seem to have to have something/someone to moan about or be critical about, it says more about them than about you in the end!

Take care x
