Can I ask has anyone on here had a problem getting their Hydroxycarbamide, used to get Medac brand from the Hospital, then was passed to Boots the chemist which was fine, but was told last week they cannot obtain anywhere, so will have to speak with hospital to see if they can provide, did try another brand by Squib but was really unwell on it for some reason.
I know Medac comes from Germany so maybe thats the problem and Brexit. 😤 or maybe Covid who knows.

Thanks for flagging this Jean. I'm due for my annual review on Wednesday which is when I normally get 6 month's supply from the hospital pharmacy. I'll let you know how I get on. I hope they have stock as I only have about 3 weeks supply left! Hope you get your supply sorted soon
Yes got plenty so not too worried at the moment. Spoke with my Haematology nurse today, and she has been getting quite a few calls from worried patients as they are also having problems not with chemists but GP practices not wanting to fund certain chemo drugs anymore and they are being referred back to the hospital for their prescriptions, so she is going to have a word with the chemotherapy pharmacy to see what is happening regarding Medac Hydroxycarbamide and when I have my next consultation next month to ask the consultant to prescribe my medication from the hospital again which she said would not be a problem.
Hello Jean,Had my annual face to face consultation today and picked my prescription (Medac) as usual. No problems with supply, so maybe it's a temporary local issue.
Hi, I get my prescription filled monthly. I order it via my GP - the surgery has a joint care agreement with my haematologist. I picked my last prescription up from Boots about 10 days ago with no issues. I've always had the same brand, Bristol Myers Squibb and again have never experienced any problems with it.
It looks to me that the shell ingredients differ between Medac and Squibb:
I don't know for sure whether it has anything to do with Brexit, Medac was founded in Germany but now has UK operations in Fife, so it could be just an ingredient supply issue at Medac. Hope it gets resolved soon for you.
I get mine from the Tesco pharmacy every few weeks, Medac. I was expecting there to possibly be some difficulty in getting them from Tesco, but I've only ever had to wait two or three days before picking them up.
Ive just had my first prescription from the hospital which made me check after your post. It is Medac. Good idea to check and see if you can get reverted back to the hospital. Hope all goes well with that.
