I have a blood pressure question does anyone take metoprolol I was taking a 25 mg tartrate a day and doing okay until Coronavirus and typical stress, and now was just having agitation eye twitching Etc finally went to the doctor and blood pressure was high so I'm now on 2 25 tartrate a day she also tried amlodipine as well as olmesartan HCTZ on me and I ended up in the hospital because my heart was palpitating so bad I felt faint and walked into a few doors and was just shaking.
so now on two metoprolol a day my top number is beautiful so is the pulse but the bottom number is still 95 to 110 I'm afraid to try anything new because I think I just have severe allergic reactions as I have a lot of allergies so to have medicine allergies is really not shocking. now she tried chlorthalidone on me and the same thing is happening the hyperness is going on and I'm actually getting a headache and it's making my pulse rise and my blood pressure go up completely
I'm just debating if she's probably got to put me on 50 mg metoprolol two times a day or if I should try irbesartan as that works for my husband. Hubby's dr tried losartan in the past as well as Lisinopril and he did not do good on either of those and he's very happy on irbesartan but I do have SVT where my heart beats a little faster than it should which is why I ended up at metoprolol in the first place. Please advise as I'm afraid to try anything new and she did say if olmesartain didn't work on you I doubt irbesartan is going to you're going to have the same side effects

As I recall your situation is complex, so caution is certainly in order We all react differently to the meds, so my experience may not apply to you. For what it is worth, i tend not to respond well to beta blockers, at least not to atenolol. Too much dyspnea and asthenia. I did have paroxysmal atrial tachycardia and used a calcium channel blocker - Diltiazem. It was easier to tolerate, but did make me constipated as heck. I ended up opting for surgery (catheter ablation) to treat the tachycardia. Prior to getting my erythrocytosis under control with phlebotomy, I did also have stage 1 hypertension. Lisinopril had undesirable side effects. Losartan worked great for me. All benefit and no adverse effects.
It sounds like the chlorthalidone is giving you problems. Perhaps not a good choice? Hopefully you were warned to monitor for rashes as they can turn into something far more serious.
Irbesartan is another angiostatin receptor blocker (like losartan). I have no idea if it is a good choice for you, but I will say that my own experience is that ARBs seem to be both helpful and easy to tolerate. It would certainly seem like a reasonable thing to ask about.
You already know that stress increases BP and HR. I would wonder about looking into some different options for stress management. Lord knows I have had to learn some things in this department lately. I have been practicing Qigong, which really helps. Others prefer yoga or other forms of meditation. Attaining a sense of mindfulness however you do it makes a big difference.
I hope you get it all sorted out soon. All the best to you.
Hi Wendy can I ask what pills you're having issues with I'm having them with amlodipine as well as chlorthalidone I have been on metoprolol for 2 and 1/2 years and never had an issue with that but now I don't know where it's not bringing down my blood pressure bottom number. I am debating trying and ARB sartin type pill
Good luck with the metaprolol i have been on over 2 years now. All of a sudden not lowering my diastolic pressure but the amlodipine and olmesartan and chlorthalidone are not good for me. Too many side effects. However I think it's stress raising that bottom number but the top number and heart rate is good, bottom won't get down so he is going to 50 mg 2xs a day no longer 25. Hopefully that works. If not he's doing it 100 mg as a succinate pill not tartrate. I wonder if others on this message board do better in succinate mode or tartrate?????
Don't take Losartan! I have PV and my kidney function tests started to go very low. I was taking 100mgs of Losartan a day for high blood pressure. My haem consultant said to half the dose and that seems to be working and BP is fine.
