Just had my first Tele-Video appointment with my hematologist. It went quite well and was certainly much better than a phone call. The doc used the VSee app to host the call. Easy to set up and worked flawlessly.
I have been on the provider side of Tele-Services before, but this was my first time as a patient. I must say I really liked the experience. There is no reason that providers cannot be doing this instead of phone calls. I would encourage everyone on a telephone-consult arrangement to encourage their providers to use this instead. it is a much better way to provide and receive care.
I expect that we will all be needing to find creative and better ways to receive care over the next several months. I hope all of my MPN brothers and sisters will find approaches that work for you. It will be best for us all if we collectively insist on care being provided in the most safe, humane and effective fashion possible. Tele-medicine can certainly be a vital part of this.
All of the best to all of you.

I always get bloodwork at my hematology appointments so that wouldn't work for me, unless anything changes. But it is a good idea for other specialists and primary care doctors. Some health plans include telemedicine, which is becoming more and more popular
The lab occurred a week before since one of them takes 3-4 days to run. We do still need to do those in person of course. It really is about minimizing contact/risk. Less is more these days. I just hope for those who are doing tele-medicine, their providers will make tele-video available as it is a better approach than telephone.
I usually get my CBC rights away as the hematology office has it's own lab. Some things do still have to fo out (e.g. iron panel). I really like being able to have the CBC immediately. All of my results are also in the patient portal. I am somewhat surprised to hear how many do not have this available. Seems like some providers are really behind the times. Guess it is the same with teie-medicine. Some systems of care are just not invested in the better ways to communicate with patients.
Hoping all our MPN friends out there will successfully push their providers to keep up with the better ways to do things.
