Hi all . I have started taking Hydroxyurea for the past 10 days. I was ok till 2 days back. I have developed a purple colour skin patch in my hand and legs just like the one you get when you get hurt.I am also feeling little feverish. My doctor has messaged me to stop the medicine and meet him. Just wanted to know if this is common. Please share your experience.

ET Medication
Hi Orangemusic-I had a bad allergic skin reaction to Hydroxy-(severe rash )!!
so am taking aspirin alone for now.
Saw Haemo man yesterday my platelets have dropped to 571 (from 611-and sometimes higher) and he seemed pleased with me.Will see him again 4 months.
So sorry to hear of your bad reaction -and hope you'll be well very soon!
Best wishes

I am HU-intolerant, though I had a different reaction than you did. HU is a toxic substance that not all can tolerate. Glad to hear that your doc took the reaction seriously and told you to d/c it. I am sure you will get it sorted out. There are other treatment options.
All the best
Hi,
Such patches are common for some persons having P.V or E.T , when your blood counts become low on medication. These are , probably , bruises caused due to mild blood diffusions under the skin in small surrounding areas due to low blood counts , especially when the platelet count is low . These patches will vanish on itself after a week or so , or when the blood counts improve. However, I am not sure if this happens with other type of myloproliferative blood disorders .Presence of fever may be a matter of concern which will have to be reviewed by the specialist doctor who is treating you.
Do not worry at all .Most likely it is a common minor occurrence which can be ignored . Nevertheless, you must see your Hematologist since fever is present ,
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thank you so much for your reply. Met my doctor yesterday. He too told me that it not a major concern . So I have started taking the medication again.
You'll need liposomal vitamin C to address purpura. It's a collagen builder and a JAK2 inhibitor. It will remain active about 41/2 hours and is better absorbed than non-liposomal. My wife uses 15ml three times a day. Also combine it with 600 mcg a day of a non-GMO Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strain selenium. Both are beneficial for ET and especially when combined. When taking HU, take care of your gut flora and detox your liver.
Thanks for your reply. Will talk to my doc about the vitamin C
