They tested for polycythemia vera it was negative and did jak2 test also negative. Because his hemoglobin and hematocrit is high. Tests said no signs of mpn. But now they want to do another bone marrow
There is a difference between polycythemia vera and secondary polycythemia. Look up the secondary causes. From what I can tell there are many causes for this and tests seem to be relatively easy to get but no mention of BMB's being done (this may be unnecessary?).
You may need to go back to your doctor to have these other tests done or hopefully oncology will follow up with more tests.
It can be as simple as dehydration & recommended that blood tests are taken in afternoon so body has rehydrated itself from no water during the night. Other reasons may be COPD and a multitude of other conditions.
I would stop smoking and see what happens. I know it's easier said than done. When I was first diagnosed with ET I had a high hematocrit. The doctor asked me several times if I smoked. When I said no he said "are you sure?" He wanted to blame my polycythemia on smoking so bad. And there is another member on here that had polycythemia that was reversed after he stopped smoking.
