Thank you all so much for your replies, I feel so much better now. From a vanity point are you all still able to have your hair coloured ?

I do. I get highlights all over every three or four months. And I know that Maz, the administrator of this site, says she's been doing some wild colours over the years, with no issues. And sometimes a little vanity is a bright light in a dark place!

Thats such a relief. Consultant mentioned thinning hair. Thank you x

Yes, that’s one of the possible side effects. And frankly the one that worried me most. But I’ve read lots of people on here say it didn’t happen to them. And some that have experienced it have mentioned more “thinning” than like hair falling out in chunks or anything!

Hi WileyFrench,

I am trying natural hair colours. There are all kinds and work well. They are just more time consuming. Also, the non permanent colours are less toxic. Keep looking good!

you can continue to use hair colours and perms as long as you follow the instructions with patch tests etc. You might notice that your hair gets a little thinner, but not too much, if it does then you must speak to your haematologist about it. And as Wileyfrench has said, I have been bleaching and colouring my hair, 6 different shades of blue, for many years and no problems, I've been on Hydroxycarbamide for about 12 years now. Maz

My hair thinned a bit when on HU which was hardly noticeable - now on Ruxo and seems to be back to normal.

I agree with the others. I’ve had thinning of my hair since taking hydroxy but I don’t think it’s due to the coloring. I’ve been coloring my hair for years. So go ahead, knock yourself out. When you look good, you feel good.

I still get mine done but only every 3 months :-) Do you use all those special hair treatments - shampoo, conditioner, etc... that help save hair from falling out and even say that it grows new hair?
