Hi Kimmyk

I have been looking at what might cause PV over the years and because my younger sister has ET I have been trying to see if any similarities in our lifestyle may have triggered our MPN’s. We had no idea each other were having a BMB and yet that and subsequent diagnosis happened within two weeks of each other.

My sister is twelve years younger than me so we only lived in the family home for eight years together before I married so I would think if it was environmental (living next to electricity pylons etc?) it would have to be something in those eight years.

I've looked at our similarities of which there aren't many 😊. My sister is very overweight and I am not. My sister has never eaten healthily and I do (mostly!). My sister does no exercise and I make sure I do my 10.000 steps a day at least.

My sister has never drunk alcohol and I love my glass of red wine 😊

The only thing we have in common is a mum and sister who have both had breast cancer and we both have mercury fillings in our teeth - ok clutching at straws here I have to admit!

Then I got to thinking that fifteen years before we were diagnosed our mum died in a car accident. It was a huge shock to the whole family of course but still makes me wonder if that kind of trauma can be a factor.

I would also be interested in hearing what others think 😊. Lesley x

I was thinking more of a physical trauma to a pv patient. I am wonder if any has been told where this comes from? Thank you for responding. Would love to here more if you have more information 😊.

Both emotional and physical trauma are equally potent to the body and soul. I’ve had many. I believe they are partly responsible for my illness! ET CALR

I saw a documentary about research into cancer and living near electric pylons and substations. Shock horror!!! when we moved into our brand new house 30 yrs ago and across the road was an electric sub station!!

Then everyone who’d worked in power stations would have it? My husband is an electrical engineer who ran power stations for decades - with hundreds of people working for him. No higher incidence of cancer - and they’d be more exposed than people living under high voltage or near substations.

Not necessarily, to take it further then everyone who has smoked would get lung cancer, every miner would copd. Etc. I think It’s just if your body is vulnerable.

When you put it that way - true! But still - we can overthink these things.

You might want to look into genetics. Are you JAK2+? There is even more rare form of familial JAK2 mutation.

I definitely think trauma has something to do with it, depending on the person and situation, and yes how vulnerable your body is. I have a recent diagnosis of ET and my platelettes started rising after I accepted a new, stressful, and potentially traumatic job. Maybe there is a correlation....

Also in the last few years I have had my mercury fillings replaced. However the resin they replace it with has a different metal we are not very familiar with.... zirconium or something like that. After doing a hair follicle allergy and heavy metal test, guess what dangerously high levels of metal I have? Zirconium!! well, then also lithium and a few others. Not sure how reliable the test is... I sent my hair follicles in to a place I found on FB. So who knows. But really, think about your dental work. Whatever materials those are made of (there are many), Constantly being absorbed into your system.

I believe all the electric, phone towers and other manmade devices affecting the atmosphere are a problem. I had a fall, never felt right after and then things went crazy and then found out about pv. I wish if doctors would know more and more research is done for us that are suffering. Thanks for responding.

Hello Kimmyk, I too have thought is this trauma related, I have PV Jak2+, Before all this was diagnosed I had an accident in the garden. Everyone had gone to bed and a window had been left open, as I am getting on a bit and the windows were heavy just to push up from inside I went into the garden a stood up on a wooden seat so I could push the window closed. Seconds later the seat crumbled ( it was old and not my weight) and my legs were badly scratched and bruised from my ankle to my thigh, Literally black and blue . It took weeks to get back to normal and I was subsequently after a couple of years found to have PV Jak2+ so you might be on the right track because no one in my family have ever had this condition. Mind you I have been told because I am half Irish (45%) that could be my inheritance from grannie as this is supposed to be quite common for them . Food for thought Eh! Good health and hope for your improvement . June.

I was told that you can't inherit jak2 by my doctor. I have no Irish in my genitics. What does Irish have to do with it? Thanks.

I cant really link my PV to trauma -nothing 'clear cut', but I do have plenty of fillings - I will ask about these.

Is it white or silver fillings? I have one white.

I have ET and I’m 100% sure that Traum triggered it. It was the time my mother was very ill dying, in a country, where nothing was working, my old father getting lost in the streets, my daughter was 7, changing schools, in Austris, I was running back and forth to a Greek village and had no help and just incompetent care takers. My whole life was falling apart. My rhomboid were suddenly up to 400 and continued rising on the average of 65,000 yearly.
